Full time role
Remote... more

The Carbon Business Council (CO2BC) is a nonprofit coalition of more than 100 companies unified to restore the climate that represents more than $16.5 billion in combined assets. Our coalition members are innovators focused on solutions to remove and manage carbon dioxide. We are a global ecosystem builder, collaborating with partners around the world to advance carbon removal and the pathways needed to make a gigaton scale impact on the climate.

We’re hiring a Policy Manager for a full-time position. Join us to advance carbon removal policy, an essential pillar of climate action that stands alongside the important work of reducing emissions and preparing for the impacts of climate change. Carbon removal is the process of removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and durably storing it in the biosphere, geosphere, ocean, or long-lived products.

The Policy Manager joins the Carbon Business Council at an impactful time for the carbon removal landscape: billions of dollars in public and private support is unlocking innovation, increasing policymaker interest, and expanding the geographies where carbon removal deployment is taking place.

We believe diversity, equity and inclusion is key for the success of carbon management globally and also internally for the success of our team. We encourage candidates of all gender identities, races, sexual orientations, physical or mental abilities, ethnicities, religions, ages, and perspectives to apply. We also encourage candidates interested in the position to apply even if they do not meet every stated requirement.

About The Role

The Policy Manager is an integral team member at the Carbon Business Council. The Manager is responsible for leading overall policy engagement for our coalition, as well as spearheading policy development for a range of individual carbon removal pathways such as marine carbon removal and enhanced weathering. The ideal candidate has a background in policy with a proven ability to deliver results. We value nimbleness: we are an agile team that is responsive to political and marketplace developments.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Carbon Removal Policy Engagement: Oversee an ongoing policy engagement strategy. This includes briefing policymakers about carbon removal, responding to government RFIs on carbon removal, and preparing internal memos on key developments.

  • Pathway-Specific Working Groups & Policy Advancement: Support working groups on specific carbon removal pathways, like direct air capture and enhanced weathering. Working group support includes forming policy positions, leading on publications, and more.

  • Launch & Manage Campaigns: Launch policy campaigns to advance carbon removal, working in partnership with the CO2BC team. This includes communications campaigns and more.

  • Partner Coordination: Coordinate between CO2BC, nonprofits and other global coalitions on carbon removal policy, including a monthly coordination call.

  • Policy Tracking: Track and report on policy developments happening in carbon removal, including in the United States and globally.

  • It is not required for a single candidate to have existing expertise across all these —we’re seeking candidates that are particularly strong in a few of the responsibilities and have some interest, capabilities, and willingness to learn in others.

Required Qualifications

  • At least five years of experience in public policy, government, trade associations, or a related industry.

  • Strong written and verbal communication, including public speaking.

  • Experience translating public policy into accessible language, such as policy briefs or explainer memos.

  • Creative and strategic thinker with the proven ability to translate ideas into action.

  • Self-starter, with an aptitude for being organized and strong time management skills.

  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.

  • Ability to work effectively within complex environments and across racial, ethnic, geographic, cultural, or other lines of difference.

  • Authorization to work in the United States, Canada, or European Union.

Desired Qualifications

  • Prior experience and/or demonstrated interest in carbon removal and/or climate change.

  • Successful examples of advancing, passing or implementing public policy.

  • Experience working with coalitions, trade associations, and/or startups.

  • Experience managing and/or participating in policy working groups.

  • Experience working on Capitol Hill.

  • Experience with strategic communications and/or media relations.

  • Familiarity with online tools like Hubspot, Slack, and Squarespace.

Location & Hours

Our team is fully remote and we work on US East Coast (EST) hours. Occasional travel will be required for conferences, events, and team meetings. The Manager must reside in the United States, Canada or European Union.

This position will require you to work at a computer for multiple hours at a time. We value work/life balance. Due to the nature of breaking developments, however, this role will sometimes require work outside traditional hours.

Salary

The salary for this position is competitive, commensurate with experience. This is a full-time position for 40 hours a week. Our benefits package includes paid vacation, personal and sick leave, paid time off for major federal holidays, health insurance, employer contributions to a retirement plan, and more.

To Apply

To apply, please send a resume and cover letter about your background and why you are interested in the position to info@CarbonBusinessCouncil.org. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis. Due to the volume of submissions, we unfortunately cannot respond to all emails.

The Carbon Business Council is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace and considers qualified candidates for this position without regard to age, sex, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation or gender identity, military/veteran status, or other basis prohibited by law.
