OVERVIEW

Then this opportunity might be for you: The Business & Corporate Development Team at NIO USA is responsible for the strategy, planning and execution of NIO’s Go-To-Market for the Americas.  This is a strategic corporate initiative, sponsored by the CEO & CFO, and comes with high visibility and tall expectations! 
NIO’s Power Portfolio, including the unique Power Swap Stations, can elevate the user’s power experience to a whole new level. As the US Power Strategy Sr. Director, you will be responsible for delivering that amazing, elevated power experience - driving the power portfolio design, the power infrastructure plan and buildout, and the power partnership ecosystem establishment - to ensure that experience.  You will bring your deep understanding of the power market and value chain to shape NIO’s power strategy, and capitalize on your existing industry relationships to build momentum on the execution of that strategy.  This position reports to the VP, Business and Corporate Development at our San Jose, CA office. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, articulate and establish a clear view of the US energy market structure and participants, and align NIO stakeholders to that view. 
  • Develop and articulate a clear view of the regulations and the incentives governing the US EV charging infrastructure participants, and align NIO stakeholders to that view.    
  • Build the strategy for NIO’s participation and placement in the US market and regulation structure, giving due consideration to NIO’s capabilities addressing market gaps, constraints and partnering opportunities.
  • Develop the pricing strategy for NIO’s power offerings, detailing how NIO’s capabilities can optimize all components of the system, including energy purchase, acquisition, storage, and delivery.
  • In partnership with NIO expert teams and external partners, drive the development of the infrastructure plan necessary to deliver an amazing, elevated power experience for NIO Users.
  • Establish a clear view of the local regulatory approval processes for power products, collaborate with engineering and program teams to formulate the plan to attain approvals, and help steer products to approval within time and budget envelope.   
  • Bring your knowledge and understanding of grid applications to bear on solution ideation and product development.
  • Develop industry relationships, represent NIO in appropriate industry forums and establish a quick feedback loop between industry, product and the power strategy.
  • Be a beacon of clarity; combine business judgment with market understanding to structure data-driven solution approaches for complex power topics.
  • Collaborate with senior cross-functional stakeholders on strategic work streams; bring insights on critical topics, translate the insights into actionable plans, and help execute as needed.
  • For all assigned responsibilities, own the outcome: Evangelize, lead, collaborate, motivate, persuade - internally and externally, and deliver exceptional outcomes backed by world-class work-product!

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 13+ years of experience in the broad power & energy sector, in a senior operating or consulting capacity.
  • Direct deep experience with EV charging, power storage, power trading or EV OEM preferred.
  • Direct experience with attaining regulatory approval for power products preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in articulating strategies to executive leadership, and persuading executive stakeholders to support said strategies.
  • Startup attitude - high motivation and willingness to take on a big challenge with potential for significant impact.
  • Bias towards action, and willingness to roll up sleeves and “solve” forward. 
  • Bachelor’s Engineering degree or equivalent. Master’s or Doctorate preferred.
