Job Description
AECOM Belgium is looking for a Mechanical Engineer/Technician to join our design team. In this role you will function as Mechanical design engineer and become a member of the Multi-disciplinary Project Delivery Team reporting to the Head of Engineering. We are looking to enhance and grow this team with individuals who have a sound technical background, who share our enthusiasm and determination, to support our expanding workload.
The team provides design, assessment, inspection, construction support and management services on a wide range of projects.
Within this role you coordinate amongst others the design and permitting trajectory, following all end-to-end stages and act as the bridge between Design Services and Construction Services on project level.
As a Mechanical Engineer you design and calculate new technical installations or ensure that the design done by external parties or teams from the abroad design hubs is in accordance with local codes practices. Within the preconditions of the Client, you translate specific requirements and wishes into a functional design of a future-proof installation. In this position, you will blend innovative problem-solving with the fast-paced environment of managing multiple concurrent projects.. You work closely with modelers and have many internal and external contacts with clients, construction partners, consultants and suppliers. Your primary role will be to provide mechanical engineering support to the various AECOM Business Lines and Project Teams.
The main duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Mechanical technical quality review (TQR) on projects where the AECOM ECC (design center) is utilized to execute the mechanical design;
- Act as mechanical engineering interface between the AECOM ECC (design center) and project Technical Lead to ensure localization (local code and regulation) of the design and compliance to the project requirements;
- Act as mechanical engineering interface between project Technical Lead, Client, Contractor and other project team members;
- Administer the mechanical package of the project to ensure compliance to AECOM quality procedures and to project specifications, to local codes, regulations and standards;
- Support the business development teams in project pursuits;
- Build and strengthen connections with clients on a day-to-day basis;
- Actively engage with other AECOM Business Lines in Benelux and France or outside the region and foster collaboration;
- Ensure that all mechanical design incorporates Safety In Design and contribute to the project risk assessment;
- Support the project team with site visits and surveys as and when required and perform mechanical construction progress inspection and quality assessments when required.
- Performing and leading the design work of projects according to the agreed safety, quality, scope and time.
- Carrying assignments to completion with considerable independence in accordance with project objectives, professional standards, policies and procedures.
- Overseeing the preparation of very high-quality construction documents on both ground up and renovation projects.
- Working with senior staff to produce technical solutions throughout design process.
- Showing thorough knowledge of construction costs.
- Carrying out risk assessments and provision of design information for Health and Safety file.
- Attending site during construction phase if necessary, to ensure construction is in accordance with specifications/drawings.
- Carrying out safety assessments of the design.
- Maintaining communication with the Project Manager during the duration of the project.
- Execute Technical Due Diligence (TDD) on selected projects.
