About the Role

As an Autonomous Systems Pathfinding Engineer, you will play a foundational role in our AI and autonomous services to improve building autonomous control performance and occupant comfort. You will identify the workflows a system should follow for making autonomous decisions and create tools and learning mechanisms to enable the autonomy of these systems.

What you’ll do

Control Pathfinding Agent: Develop and maintain the infrastructure to perform real-time decision making at the edge, using existential ontological reasoning and differentiable physics simulation inferencers. Implement the control pathfinder agent in PassiveLogic’s Hive controller infrastructure and integrated software tools.

In-suite Autonomous Learning: Enhance the adaptability of the system over time. This involves developing an agent for autonomous sensor data fusion, quantifying the quality of empirical/prediction data, continuous physics model learning and state estimation for improving prediction accuracy.

Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including Digital Twins, AI Frameworks, Formal Methods, and the platform team, for system integration validation and proving levels of autonomy.

Design Interfaces: Develop an interface with the object model through Object Relational Mapping.

Creating Robust Solutions: Create building systems control route optimization and real-time decision-making using technologies like machine learning, graph theory, and sensor fusion.

Monitoring and Optimization: Analyze system performance and identify opportunities for improvement, adapting control strategies as needed. Bridge AI Autonomous services tools with AI solver infrastructure and ontological learning models.

Documentation: Create documentation, and refine, extend, and maintain existing documentation that articulates our vision for a module, its existing implementation status, and planned stages of effort

You must have

• Proven Experience:
• BS/MS/PhD in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of software engineering experience required, though 5+ years preferred, working with large codebases with non-trivial architecture, beyond just coding small (1000’s of lines) programs and scripts.
• Strong experience in systems engineering and control systems theory.
• Extraordinary teammate with excellent interpersonal skills.
• Exceptional Software Engineering Background:
• Strong proficiency in systems programming languages such as Swift, C++, Rust, or Java.
• Experience in design patterns and multiple software paradigms, including data-driven, OOP, functional, and protocol-oriented software design.
• Experience in test-driven development (TDD) method.

• Exceptional Communication Skills: Effectively articulates complex technical concepts related to the built environment and cyber-physical systems across diverse channels, ensuring clarity and engagement. Proficient in crafting messaging that resonates with varied audiences, from technical teams to stakeholders.
• Organized and Strategic: Demonstrates strategic thinking in ensuring systems are secure, compliant, and optimized for performance.
• Collaborative Mindset: Thrives in cross-functional team settings, working closely with engineering, data, and security teams to align validation frameworks and database management strategies with broader project goals. Values collaboration in building integrated solutions that drive success.

You should have

• Deep Understanding of the Built Environment and Cyber-Physical Systems: A comprehensive knowledge of how physical infrastructures integrate with digital technologies, enabling the creation of intelligent, adaptive systems that drive innovation.
• Proficiency in Reasoning and Inferencing: Skilled in applying advanced reasoning and inferencing techniques to support decision-making processes and enhance the intelligence of systems. Solid understanding of machine learning algorithms and infrastructure, optimization, and control systems.
• Experience with Relational Databases: Demonstrated proficiency in managing and optimizing relational databases such as PostgreSQL and MySQL, ensuring efficient data organization and retrieval for complex applications.

It’s helpful to have

• Experience in Deploying Autonomous Systems: Demonstrated expertise in deploying autonomous systems, ensuring seamless integration and reliable performance across various environments and applications.
• Expertise with Validation Frameworks for Autonomous Systems: Proven ability to design and implement frameworks that validate the reliability, safety, and performance of autonomous systems across diverse scenarios.
• Proficiency in Swift Programming Language: Knowledge in using Swift to develop, optimize, and maintain software solutions, leveraging its capabilities to create efficient and scalable applications. Background in auto-differentiation and differential programming.
• Background in Building Science Fundamentals: A fundamental understanding of building energy, HVAC systems, and/or electromechanical systems.
