Job Description

This role is responsible for leading federal government affairs activities effort with a primary focus on energy, tax, and regulatory policy, appropriations, and related legislation, particularly in the nuclear energy sector. The individual will collaborate with internal and external partners to create strategies and solutions, and implementation plans that deliver measurable results. Responsibilities include creating policy papers, analyzing bill, drafting legislation, providing actionable policy recommendations, anticipating policy developments, and positioning X-energy as a leading voice affecting nuclear energy policy. Through their leadership and their interactions with Congress and the Executive Branch, the role will shape policy outcomes that impact and advance X-energy’s business objectives.


 

Job Profile Tasks/Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute comprehensive federal government affairs strategies to advance the company’s policy priorities and business objectives.
  • Lead engagement with Congress, White House, federal agencies (particularly DOE and DoD), and other stakeholders to assess and provide input to energy-related policies and legislation.
  • Proactively engage with appropriate stakeholders to anticipate actions impacting federal energy policy, with a focus on nuclear energy and related technologies.
  • Provide strategic guidance on legislative and regulatory developments that impact the company’s operations and growth.
  • Develop implementation plans that align the company's nuclear energy initiatives with federal funding through all the appropriate channels.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to identify and pursue opportunities for federal funding and partnerships.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key officials at the DOE, DoD, NASA and other appropriate agencies to identify business opportunities through policy and programmatic decisions.
  • Represent the company in meetings, hearings, and public forums to communicate priorities and establish thought leadership.
  • Provide regular updates to senior leadership on federal policy developments and their implications for the company.
  • Develop and deliver high-quality briefing materials, testimony, and correspondence to support initiatives.
  • Provide strategic input to the strategic and budget planning processes and develop measurable objectives for Government Affairs.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to ethical and transparent activities in all engagements.
  • Maintain professional demeanor and behavior at all times in all forms of communication.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager.

Job Profile Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, law, or a related technical field.
  • Typically, fifteen years of general work experience.
    • A minimum of seven years of federal government relations and/or policy experience, with a proven track record in energy policy and appropriations activities can be in lieu of fifteen years of general work experience.
  • Significant experience engaging with Congress, White House, and DOE and DoD on energy-related issues.
  • Deep understanding of federal policymaking processes, energy policy, and funding processes and opportunities, with specialized expertise in nuclear energy.
  • Familiarity with the federal budget, legislative, and regulatory processes and landscape impacting the energy sector.
  • Experience building and maintaining high-level relationships with federal officials and stakeholders and other companies.

Location: 530 Gaither Road, Rockville MD
Work Site Expectations: at least 3 days per week in office

Travel Expectations: up to 10% as needed

Hours: standard office schedule are 8:00am-5:00pm ET Mon-Fri

Compensation

As required by Maryland and other applicable state law, X Energy, LLC (X-energy) lists the expected compensation range for a publicly advertised job opportunity based upon the job requirements (e.g. education/training, experience, skill sets, etc.).  Individual candidates who meet the job requirements for the posted position will be offered a salary within this range based on their respective levels of education/training, experience, and other qualifications unique to them.  Salary ranges may vary based on the specific office location and region referenced in the posting to take into consideration differences in cost of living and may not be reflective of all regions.  Please note that compensation ranges listed for US job postings reflect base salary only and do not include benefits or other incentives. 

A reasonable estimate for this position at the level of experience required is:

$162,000- $225,000
