Legal Summer Associate

Madison Energy Infrastructure (“MEI”) believes in the power of clean energy infrastructure and has quickly emerged as a preeminent developer, investor, asset owner, and operator of distributed generation. This role represents a critical next step in MEI’s evolution toward offering direct, end-to-end services to Fortune 500 corporates, public entities, nonprofits, and other private customers alike.
We are seeking a Legal Summer Associate to support our in-house legal team during the summer. This position offers hands-on experience in energy law, regulatory compliance, property law, and corporate legal matters. The ideal candidate will be a law student interested in renewable energy, environmental law, property law or corporate governance.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Assisting with legal research on renewable energy regulations, environmental policies and industry trends.
- Assisting in reviewing, drafting, reviewing, and analyzing legal contracts including membership interest purchase agreements, construction contracts, power purchase agreements (PPAs), supplier contracts, leases, easements, and joint venture agreements.
- Assisting with permitting and land use matters including research on zoning.
- Assisting with ad hoc projects as needed.
What We Are Looking For:
- Currently enrolled in an accredited law school (2L or 3L).
- Strong legal research and analytical skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to handle confidential information.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Interest in the solar industry.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to build strong interpersonal relationships.
Compensation: $40 per hour
Location & Hours: This is a hybrid role that is based in our Richmond, VA or McLean, VA office, with a required 40-hours per week; 4 days in office and 1 day remote.
