An Automation Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing automated equipment used in industrial and manufacturing settings. They work with robotic equipment, programmable logic controllers, and other automated systems to ensure efficient operation. Automation Technicians must possess a good understanding of electrical and mechanical systems, as well as a strong knowledge of relevant safety protocols.
Role Purpose
The purpose of an Automation Technician is to install, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair automated systems and equipment used in production and manufacturing. They use a variety of tools and techniques to ensure that machines are operating efficiently and safely. Automation Technicians are also responsible for creating preventative maintenance schedules, testing systems to ensure they are operating correctly, and performing repairs when necessary.
Automation Technician Summary
The Automation Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing industrial automation systems. This position requires a high level of technical knowledge and experience in the fields of electronics, pneumatics, hydraulics, mechanics, PLC, and Robotics. The Automation Technician must have a solid understanding of industrial processes and be able to read and interpret electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic schematics. They must have a strong knowledge of the principles of lean manufacturing, robotics, and motion control systems. The successful candidate must possess excellent problem solving and communication skills, strong attention to detail, and be able to work independently or as part of a team.
Automation Technician Duties
· Set up, maintain and troubleshoot automated production systems
· Conduct tests to evaluate performance of automated systems
· Maintain records of automated systems
· Develop and implement modifications to automated systems
· Perform preventative maintenance on automated systems
· Assist with the development of training materials for other technicians

Automation Technician Requirements
· Ability to operate and maintain automated machines and systems
· Completed Lucid PLC and Fanuc courses or 3 years of equivalent experience
· Knowledge of programming languages and software applications related to automation
· Knowledge of Siemens and Studio 5000 PLC
· Knowledge of safety procedures and industry regulations
· Knowledge of vision systems including but not limited to: Cognex and Fanuc IR Vision
· Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills
· Strong communication and organizational skills
