Redwood Materials was founded in 2017 to create a circular supply chain for electric vehicles and clean energy products, making them more sustainable and driving down the cost for batteries. We’re doing this by developing and deploying new technologies to increase the scope and scale of recycled and sustainable materials in the global battery supply chain.
R&D Technician, Electrochemistry
Redwood Materials is seeking an R&D / Pilot Technician. In this role, you will run and execute experiments at the lab and pilot scale that will enable us to develop new equipment, flowsheets and products.
Responsibilities will include:
- Build and maintain lab equipment
- Prepare solutions and conduct wet-chemistry bench experiments
- Prepare samples for analysis using established tests and techniques.
- Perform chemical analyses, optical measurements, and mechanical tests.
- Run and monitor experiments in high volume manufacturing
- Support the development of new metrology systems and prove their capabilities
Desired Qualifications:
- Associates or bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- Demonstrated basic knowledge of math, chemistry and/or computer skills appropriate to the assignment.
- Mechanical design and fabrication experience
- Hands on experience building complex mechanical systems
- Laboratory experience in wet-chemistry and bench top experiments
- Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Strong written and verbal communication
- Organization and documentation skills.
- Strong ability to follow detailed technical instructions and operating procedures.
- Experience troubleshooting experiments.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- A passion for sustainability and making the world a better place!
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to work hands on in the lab, including standing and operating equipment at a lab bench.
- Able to work in laboratory and factory environment for extended periods.
- Able to lift to 30lbs.
Working Conditions:
- Environment: office, wet laboratory, chemical plant, outdoor test sites.
- Essential physical requirements: working hands-on in a research lab setting.
- Travel required as needed, less than 10%.
The position is full-time. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
