Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated Software Engineering Manager to lead a new web development team here at RoadRunner. This role will directly impact the technical direction and implementation of our web applications and tech stack, collaborating closely with product, design, and business leaders to deliver innovative solutions. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape our engineering culture and mentor a high-performing team. A strong technical background in web development, proven leadership skills, and a passion for team growth are essential.


Primary Duties Including % of time:

  • 30% - Manage the delivery of high-quality, scalable, and maintainable web applications
  • 30% - Lead the team through agile design and development, end-to-end delivery
  • 20% - Provide technical insight and deliver individual contributor work
  • 20% - Collaborate with product managers to define roadmaps and translate business requirements into technical specifications for web applications
  • 10% - Maintain current awareness of marketplace trends, both technical and process improvements

Organizational Relationship:

  • Reports To: CTO
  • Direct Reports: Engineering Team of 5 – 7 software engineers and one QA Analyst
  • Interacts with: Technology, Product, External Stakeholders, Sales, Finance, Analysis, Customer Success, Operations


Skills and Experience:

  • 7+ years professional experience in software development including design and implementation with prior experience leading software engineering teams
  • 5+ years familiarity with developing software as a service (SaaS) using AWS or similar with prior experience with cloud-based software development and deployment
  • Preferred experience managing software engineering teams
  • Proficient with relevant technologies: Ruby on Rails, React, Node, Typescript, PostgreSQL or similar
  • Experience building and managing web applications at scale.
  • Experience creating technical scopes, technical requirements documents and technical roadmaps.
  • The ability to communicate technical concepts and decisions to non-technical stakeholders. Experience hiring and growing an engineering team.
  • Experience overseeing and implementing technical process such as pull request reviews, code coverage, continuous integration and deployment, and cloud platform management.
  • The ability to debug complex technical issues.
  • The ability to contribute as a developer when needed.
  • Passionate about business results and quality, with a strong sense of accountability, metrics and ownership.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to grasp the tactical details.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, is dynamic, and can capture a group’s interest and maintain it as well as the ability to facilitate meetings with diverse and sometimes conflicting points of view.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, multi-task, and effectively prioritize assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate at all levels and across all functions of the organization.
  • Proven ability to organize/manage multiple priorities coupled with the flexibility to quickly adapt to ever changing business needs.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving. Solid decision making in a timely manner.
  • Enthusiasm for our sustainability driven mission


Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field required
