Job Summary: GreenLight Biosciences is seeking an exceptional, highly motivated, and collaborative Field Development Representative to help develop cutting-edge RNA-based Crop Protection products in the agricultural markets in the United States. This role will report into the Director, Regional Product Development – North America and will be based in the assigned territory – West Coast United States (California, Oregon or Washington).  In this role, the Field Development Representative will serve as the local area expert for the products and crops grown in the area. This role will partner with the Product Development, Technical Sales Support, Commercial and Sales, Formulations, and Regulatory Teams of GreenLight as well as growers, channel partners, university specialists and other local experts to evaluate, develop, and ensure proper technical positioning of GreenLight Bio’s novel biopesticides. The successful candidate will actively plan and execute their own field research trials and will manage external field research trials with partners with the highest scientific rigor and methodologies as well as representing GreenLight Biosciences within the assigned territory and will be an active participant in the North America Product Development team. The position may utilize research findings to contribute to scientific literature and conferences as well as assisting in securing patents for GreenLight Biosciences. The successful candidate may serve as a spokesperson on corporate research and development within the assigned territory and advise other functions and management on the development of the company’s products. This role will develop and expand a network of researchers and key influencers within the assigned territory and leverage them to develop GreenLight Biosciences products and build its image. The successful candidate will analyze research results and make high quality recommendations based on these results in a timely manner. The successful candidate will operate within the guidelines and according to the safety rules of GreenLight Biosciences. 

 

JOb Responsibilities:  

 

Process/ Operation: 

  • Conduct and coordinate quality efficacy trials with in-depth knowledge of agronomic and crop factors in the assigned territory, contributing to the biological profiling and label development of new and registered product concepts. 
  • Utilization of GreenLight Biosciences’ internal research software and database and become proficient in the procedures to develop/edit study protocols and track/report results.  
  • Contribute to or lead project planning and defining experimental objectives; ensuring trial implementation; generating or acquiring data and information. 
  • Coordinate trials with universities, extension cooperators and contract research organizations, to generate data and assure appropriate representation and recommendation of GreenLight Bioscience products and solutions. 
  • Develop and provide clear technical positioning for all products (new lead candidates as well as new development products) and the combined Greenlight Biosciences portfolio within assigned territory. This includes integrated resistance strategy, rotational products, and the future of Greenlight Biosciences product pipeline. Ensure that the global category/project teams have clear technical feedback to provide needed global support.  
  • Ensure that incoming field trial data is summarized and disseminated in a concise, timely manner complete with relevant statistical analysis, conclusions and recommendations. 
  • Identify development opportunities for product label expansion, new uses and new solutions. 
  • Provide technical data and information in support of special local, state and regional labeling actions. 
  • In accordance with company objectives, develop and monitor development plans and budgets for all territory projects, ensuring projects are completed on time and within cost objectives. 
  • Protect and develop GreenLight Biosciences’ Intellectual property, including, but not limited to, development of testing agreements, invention disclosures and support of patent filings and prosecution. 
  • Required to work beyond normal workday hours. Travel is required up to (25%). 

 

Customer: 

  • Develop and maintain key relationships with important market influencers in assigned territory (including university research & extension personnel, commodity representatives, state and local government employees, growers/producers and pest control advisors) to ensure that GLB products are well received known, respected and promoted. 
  • Stay abreast of and provide updates to internal stakeholders on competitive products and technologies in the existing marketplace. 
  • Collaborate internally with the R&D organization, Formulations, Regulatory, Global / Regional Marketing and Sales. 
  • Ensure complete technology transfer at the time of the launch for globally managed products. In conjunction with Product Development and Marketing teams prepare and deliver presentations of detailed technical information and summaries in support of GLB’s product promotion and knowledge transfer.   

 

Individual/ Team: 

  • Identifies opportunities to create synergies across functional teams by sharing technical information and by identifying and communicating best practices and new opportunities across global business units and with the commercial representatives in North America. 
  • Provides technical support and training where needed with specific focus on how to sell the value in the portfolio. 

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • A Master of Science or Ph.D. in Entomology, Plant Pathology, Weed Science or related field with 5+ years of experience. 
  • Technical expertise in the area of specialty crops, scientific methods (particularly for field research in agriculture) and the ability to set up and manage field research trials is essential.  
  • Demonstrated success in managing time and operating independently in addition to being customer focused with good interpersonal skills and working in teams. 
  • Understanding in the Agrochemical, Crop Science or Bio-Solutions industry with a knowledge of agronomy and crop production practices is essential. Local knowledge of crops grown in assigned territory is beneficial. 
  • Knowledge of high-level statistics, experimental design, and data analyses and interpretation. Technical knowledge of North American agricultural markets and GAP validation for agricultural solutions products. 
  • Experience with trials management software such as ARM is essential.   
  • Ability to use field and analytical equipment / instruments and provide basic maintenance and repairs remotely as necessary. 
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook are essential. 

 

Location: Western Coast (Northern California, Oregon, Washington)

TECHNICAL ACUMEN: The individual in this role must possess a sound knowledge and understanding of scientific methods in agricultural crop protection and be able to translate the knowledge gained into simple, clear, actionable conclusions and recommendations.

Travel: 15-20% of the time; potentially more local overnight travel will be required
