This individual will be part of a rapidly growing team responsible for PCBA design, component selection, functional safety, and design validation testing. Ideally, the electrical engineer should have exposure to a broad range of technical challenges and methods in the context of product development, including high-voltage electronics design, EMC compliance, and root cause failure analysis. Cross-team collaboration throughout the product development organization is a critical part of this role, so systems-level thinking and multidisciplinary engineering problem-solving are key traits of a successful candidate.

What you'll do:

  • Lead complex projects with software and hardware engineers to develop a battery management system (BMS) that coordinates functionality and safety responses

  • Take ownership of schematic capture, layout design, and release for various PCBAs

  • Lead technically challenging workstreams that align to critical program goals

  • Act a generalist solving some of the toughest cross functional design problems within our battery system

  • Expected to engage with and leverage test, reliability, manufacturing teams as needed

  • Lead RCA work across the organization for the electrical systems team

  • Drive interface definition via Interface Control Diagrams and Interface Requirements

  • Perform detailed engineering analysis such as circuit power draw, voltage protection, over-current protection, thermal load, cycle life, and component level FMEAs

  • Engage with the e-chem team, to understand electrical systems requirements and interaction between the electronics and battery chemistry

  • Support the new product introduction and manufacturing scale-up activities, including quality inspection requirements, root cause failure analysis, and test equipment development

What you'll bring:

  • 10+ years experience with experience in all phases of product development life cycle - preferred energy storage experience

  • Experience scaling up development efforts for electronics development, fabrication, and assembly processes

  • Ability to dive into technically complex problems, and provide roadmaps for execution

  • Influence design decisions and tradeoffs across the systems engineering organization

  • Background using and debugging industrial controls and serial communication protocols

  • Expert knowledge with embedded systems, high voltage isolation, and power conversion switching circuit designs

  • BSc or greater degree in electronics or electrical engineering
