Job Summary 

 

Kairos Power is seeking a Facilities Mechanical Technician with general building and mechanical expertise supporting industrial, commercial and/or R&D facilities. This position will be located at the Kairos Power Headquarters facility and will report into the Facilities Department. You will support a variety of facilities maintenance across that site including performing inspections, installations, repairs, replacements, and other general tasks on existing facility infrastructure. The individual will also conduct testing, operation, troubleshooting, and mechanical work in support of the engineering teams on site.  The ideal candidate will also have experience with performing specialized maintenance on lab HVAC systems, R&D test equipment, manufacturing equipment, chemical processing equipment, and other commercial building systems including fire alarms, access control, security cameras, and security alarms. 

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Provide technical support for required mechanical tasks in collaboration with internal facilities, construction, engineering and project teams
  • Complete preventative and corrective maintenance/troubleshooting on site HVAC, plumbing, and basic electrical systems
  • Support the scope and coordination with facilities contractors to complete required projects/work on site
  • Maintain a detailed understanding and knowledge of the buildings mechanical electrical and plumbing systems
  • Support the construction and operations of new test equipment is support of R&D testing at facility
  • Perform lockout/tagout to isolate components and de-energize equipment.
  • Ability to test, troubleshoot, and repair malfunctioning systems, apparatus, or components by using basic electrical test equipment (voltmeters, ohmmeters)
  • Carry out skilled maintenance tasks encompassing inspections, operations, installation, and troubleshooting of building equipment such as bridge cranes and dock equipment
  • Manage small facilities projects, work orders, and preventive maintenance tasks using computer and app-based systems
  • Document and communicate results of preventive maintenance tasks including visual inspections, defect detection, hazard identification, and code compliance
  • Analyze, prepare, and deliver reports; fill out preventative maintenance requests, deficiency reports, and work orders using a computer and other equipment.
  • Provide effective and timely customer service to internal clients and team members.
  • Comply with national, local, and company safety codes, procedures, policies and practices

Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and completion of related accredited program or equivalent work experience in industrial or commercial maintenance, with emphasis on mechanical and general building work
  • 3+ years of experience working with HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or related systems in industrial, commercial and/or R&D facilities
  • Ability to maintain, inspect, operate, install, repair, replace, test, and troubleshoot mechanical, plumbing, and basic components.
  • Experience testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical equipment.
  • Experience in reading plumbing and mechanical diagrams, drawings, schematics, & specifications.
  • Ability to oversee electrical commissioning, testing, and maintenance activities performed by consultants and electrical testing contractors.
  • Strong understanding of busway power distribution systems, plus grounding and bonding for specialized laboratory and manufacturing equipment.
  • Experience with Building Management System (BMS), Building Automation System (BAS), Energy Management System (EMS), and/or HVAC Systems troubleshooting.
  • Must have experience maintaining an electrically safe workplace utilizing NFPA 70E as a safety standard (LOTO etc.); intermediate knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations, and adherence to applicable Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) laws and regulations is also required
  • Demonstrated customer service and interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively in writing and verbally with technical, administrative, and management personnel.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively independently and as a team member.
  • Strong computer-based skills including ability to utilize software to create and update work orders, send and receive e-mails and internal messages, participate in computer-based training, web-based meetings, and utilize internal company applications.
  • Ability to operate motor vehicles and be insured on company vehicles
  • Completion of OSHA 30 Construction Safety Training preferred
  • First Aid/CPR/AED Training is a plus
  • Ability to work with highly collaborative team
  • Ability to solve problems quickly and efficiently
  • Prioritizes and ensures safety of one self and others
  • Ability to proactively collect, manage and transfer knowledge
  • Ability to seek different and novel ways to create efficiencies when working on problems, challenges and issues

  • Wearing proper PPE, to include face mask, face shields, gloves, safety shoes

  • Some travel may be required, up to 5% 

Certification

  • Capable of obtaining forklift and boom lift certification

The hourly range for this position is $36 to $40 for employees working onsite at our Alameda, CA headquarters. The range provided in this job posting represents the typical range or starting rate of candidates hired in California.
