JOB OVERVIEW

Under the direction of the Supervisor, provide engineering designs, technical evaluations, considerations, and proposals, pertaining to any of the equipment or systems in any power generation nuclear facility. Maintain instructions and procedures up to date, prepare reports, review proposals from external organizations. Participate in training programs as required.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Working in accordance with prescribed safety procedures and regulations:

  • Carry out or assist in the preparation of assigned aspects of power generation, transmission and distribution using standard engineering or scientific methods and techniques and with instructions on certain aspects of the work: work with established designs or direction governing new or advanced approaches; carry out or assist with special studies or analyses for the definition and solution of problems, or for economic or efficiency considerations; participate in the preparation of specifications, procedures, estimates for small projects, and information on contract content, material selection or treatment, testing, etc.; visit project sites and manufacturers' locations to obtain data and review progress with customers, contractors and vendors, and to become familiar with the operating environment.
  • Carry out or assist in engineering or scientific analyses of designs or schemes of work for plant, equipment and systems, including contracted portions, to ensure optimum, economic, design parameters are met: participate in analyses, including discussions with contractors and customers, regarding matters of design, cost, availability, schedule, manufacturing technique, performance tests, etc.; prepare data for recommendations to achieve work objectives; work with others, including customers, construction and contractors, in the resolution of problems.
  • As directed, maintain and/or update operating and other specified department/ divisional procedures. Receive assignments relating to procedures from the Supervisor or identify potential problems and opportunities. Discuss these with operating personnel or others as required to ensure current practices are recognized in the procedure. Prepare new or revised procedures consistent with operating licenses, policies, principles, department standard practices, standing instructions, maximum safety of operation, minimal risk of damage or loss, optimum frequency of routines, efficient operation, and the like. Submit for review and approval.
  • As directed, participate in training programs to further your own development, and assist in the development of others. Attend lectures, do assignments, and write examinations. Develop training material and give lectures on specific topics, set, and mark examinations and otherwise assist in training programs.

Experience

We are seeking dynamic and results-driven professionals:

Requires training and experience in the design, development, or operation of a nuclear facility or in the development, manufacture or production of nuclear materials or components or in an industrial environment associated with the design, development, operation or maintenance of industrial systems and equipment.

Requires experience to solve problems, to provide advice and guidance, to initiate developmental studies and to make recommendations during the design, commissioning, and operation of a nuclear facility; to evaluate components or materials, and to perform economic studies and evaluations associated with the design, commissioning, and operation of a nuclear facility. Requires further experience in the position to become familiar with the work and fully competent.
