The Opportunity:
The opportunity This is an exciting opportunity to join Wood Mackenzie’s highly respected Power and Renewables (P&R) Research team, focusing on global power market analysis, modelling, and transaction advisory solutions. This newly formed team is focused on delivering comprehensive, tailored insights to support project financing, mergers and acquisitions, and investment advisory in the rapidly evolving global power and renewables markets. Wood Mackenzie is known for producing market-leading research and offering integrated, indepth power curves and market outlooks. This role will allow you to directly support clients navigating complex energy transactions. We combine extensive data with deep knowledge of conventional fuels and renewable supply chains. By joining our team, you will play a critical role in delivering high-quality insights that influence key decisions within the power and renewable sector.
The Role:
We seek a dynamic and motivated Senior Analyst/ Research Manager to join a newly formed team that provides bespoke commercial analysis to support project financing and transactions across global power and renewables markets. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the foundation of a new service offering, developing tailored transaction and valuation support solutions that will complement our existing subscription services and provide clients with comprehensive commercial due diligence.
As a Senior Analyst in the team, you will initially collaborate closely with our research groups to enhance and refine our models and data, laying the groundwork for creating a suite of transaction and valuation support offerings. Your work will be crucial in improving and advancing our analytical tools, ensuring they meet unique demands from clients involved in high-value power and renewables transactions.
Once the team and its offerings are fully established, your focus will shift toward supporting the delivery of these bespoke commercial analysis projects. You will work closely with project managers to plan and execute the delivery of each project, ensuring that all deliverables are of the highest quality, on time, and within budget. You will manage data and modelling tasks, conduct in-depth analysis, and provide insights that directly inform client decision-making on transactions, investments, and strategic projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Model & data enhancement: Collaborate with internal research teams to refine existing models, enhance data sets, and develop new analytical frameworks to support the creation of transaction and valuation solutions.
Bespoke transaction support: Once established, focus on providing tailored transaction and valuation support to clients, including conducting commercial due diligence, market assessments, and financial modelling to evaluate investment opportunities and transaction risks.
Project delivery: Work closely with project managers to plan, coordinate, and deliver bespoke analysis projects, ensuring all work is completed to the highest standards and aligned with client needs, timeframes, and budgets.
Client engagement: Provide actionable insights and recommendations to clients, supporting key decision-making processes related to project financing, mergers and acquisitions, and strategic investments.
Cross-functional collaboration: Work with various teams within the organization to ensure smooth delivery of services and seamless integration of market research, data analytics, and commercial expertise into the transaction advisory process.
Requirements:

Qualification/Experience:
Strong knowledge and experience in power and renewables markets, with a particular understanding of power plant technologies, operations, and economics.
Experience with financial modelling and valuation techniques and can effectively apply these to power and renewable assets to support advisory work on transactions and valuations within the sector
Work experience of 5+ years with any - developer, consultancy/ equity research, private equity, financial institutions, or another market/investment-focused organization
Exceptional analytical/quantitative skills, including experience in modelling or commercial analysis in power markets.
Comfortable working with large datasets, databases, and APIs, and familiar with tools like Python, SQL, and Power Query to handle and analyse data
Experience in optimization models is an advantage, as is experience of modelling or commercial analysis in power markets
Knowledge & Skills:
Proficiency in financial metrics and valuation techniques such as ROI, IRR, NPV, and multiples analysis.
Understanding of the M&A process, including due diligence, deal structuring, integration planning, and negotiation
Understanding of market trends, regulatory issues, and key drivers in power sector
Communication Skills:
Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
Fluency in additional European/ Asian languages is an advantage
Knowledge & Skills:
Proficiency in financial metrics and valuation techniques such as ROI, IRR, NPV, and multiples analysis.
