This is an exciting opportunity to join Wood Mackenzie’s highly respected Power and Renewables (P&R) Research team, focusing on global power market analysis, modelling, and transaction advisory solutions. This newly formed team is focused on delivering comprehensive, tailored insights to support project financing, mergers and acquisitions, and investment advisory in the rapidly evolving global power and renewables markets. Wood Mackenzie is known for producing market-leading research and offering integrated, indepth power curves and market outlooks. This role will allow you to directly support clients navigating complex energy transactions. We combine extensive data with deep knowledge of conventional fuels and renewable supply chains. The Role :
We seek a dynamic and motivated Principal Analyst to join a newly formed team that provides bespoke commercial analysis to support project financing and transactions across global power and renewables markets. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the foundation of a new service offering, developing tailored transaction and valuation support solutions that will complement our existing subscription services and provide clients with comprehensive commercial due diligence. As a Principal Analyst in the team, you will not only contribute to the enhancement of analytical tools and data but also play a key role in mentoring and coaching junior team members. You will be responsible for leading the development of tailored transaction and valuation support solutions, ensuring they meet the distinct needs of clients involved in high-value power and renewables transactions. As the team and offerings mature, your role will evolve to focus on guiding the project delivery process, providing high-level strategic insight, and fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic leadership: Lead the development and implementation of the transaction and valuation support solutions. Collaborate with senior management to define the team's strategic direction and growth plans. Identify market trends and client needs to inform service development and expansion opportunities.
Advance analytics and modelling: Lead the development of new analytical models to support high-quality, bespoke solutions for clients involved in complex transactions. Develop sophisticated, tailored analytical frameworks to address client requirements. Ensure collaboration and integration with the research teams on cutting-edge methodology and analytical tools.
Project leadership: Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of high-impact transaction advisory projects. Ensure project outcomes meet or exceed client expectations on quality, timeliness, and strategic value. Manage project risks and resolve complex issues that arise during engagements.
Client management: Serve as a trusted advisor to high-profile clients, providing expert guidance on transaction strategies, risk assessment, and investment decisions. Lead client presentations and workshops, articulating complex analyses and recommendations clearly and persuasively. Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders in client organizations
Team development and mentorship: Build and lead a high-performing team of analysts and researchers. Provide mentorship and guidance to team members, fostering their professional growth and analytical capabilities. Promote a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the team.
Cross-functional collaboration: Work with various teams within the organization to ensure smooth delivery of services and seamless integration of market research, data analytics, and commercial expertise into the transaction advisory process.
Requirements:
Intellectual Curiosity & Collaboration:

Qualification/Experience:
• Advanced degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, or a related field.
• 10+ years of experience in transaction advisory, management consulting, or investment banking, with a focus on the energy sector.
• Proven track record of leading complex analytical projects and delivering high-value insights to clients.
• Strong expertise in financial modelling, valuation techniques, and commercial due diligence.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and client management skills.
• Deep understanding of global power and renewables markets, including regulatory landscapes and investment trends.
• Exceptional analytical/quantitative skills, including experience in modelling or commercial analysis in power markets.
• Experience working with large datasets, databases, and APIs, and familiar with tools like Python, SQL, and Power Query to handle and analyse data • Experience in optimization models is an advantage, as is experience of modelling or commercial analysis in power markets
Knowledge & Skills:
• Proficiency in financial metrics and valuation techniques such as ROI, IRR, NPV, and multiples analysis.
• Understanding of the M&A process, including due diligence, deal structuring, integration planning, and negotiation
• Understanding of market trends, regulatory issues, and key drivers in power sector
Communication Skills:
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
• Fluency in additional European/ Asian languages is an ad
