We are seeking a talented and experienced Materials Engineer with expertise in polymers, chemicals, resins, paints, papers, and composites for our NAM HUB Engineering team. This role is crucial in qualifying new materials and suppliers, ensuring our products meet the highest quality and performance standards. You will collaborate with our transformer factories across the NAM HUB and other stakeholders to drive the adoption of standard materials. You will provide technical and application support within the company in the development, verification, and standardization of materials and evaluation of available solutions in accordance with industry, technical, quality, and safety requirements. This position is located at our headquarters in Raleigh, NC.

How you'll make an impact

  • Support the Supply Chain in developing new suppliers and identifying cost reduction opportunities.
  • Analyze material properties and their impact on product performance.
  • Compare material properties using datasheets to identify the best options.
  • Ensure materials meet environmental and performance standards.
  • Define and develop test plans to validate material properties.
  • Collaborate with laboratories to execute tests and ensure accurate results.
  • Evaluate test results and make informed decisions on material qualification.
  • Drive the standardization of parts and materials to streamline processes.

Your background

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Materials Science, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of industry experience.
  • Work authorization to permit employment with Hitachi Energy in the United States.
  • Experience in production, quality assurance, and supplier development in the chemicals industry.
  • Proven experience with insulations, chemicals, resins, paints, papers, and composites.
  • Strong understanding of material properties and their impact on product performance.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
