AECOM is seeking a CIVIL HIGHWAY ENGINEER-IN-TRAINING (EIT) to be based in the Greater Philadelphia Area. AECOM has offices in Philadelphia and Conshohocken, PA as well as Newark, DE.

In this role, you will partner with a project engineer to originate calculations, develop plans and models on medium to large scale transportation projects in the Greater Pennsylvania Area.

Current notable projects include:

  • I-95 RECONSTRUCTION (Philadelphia, PA) – Urban interstate reconstruction including interchange ramp and local roadway re-alignments, traffic control, and utility coordination in final design to mitigate level of service and improve existing conditions
  • STATE RD RECONSTRUCTION (Bucks County, PA) – Suburban arterial reconstruction including right-of-way plan development, roadway geometry, pavement design, traffic control, and utility coordination in preliminary engineering to mitigate existing roadway flooding
  • SR1 RECONSTRUCTION (Chester County, PA) – Freeway reconstruction including profile adjustments, interchange reconstruction, interchange ramp realignments, multiple roundabout designs, trail designs, and side road alignment adjustments.
  • US-22 RECONSTRUCTION (Allentown, PA) – Urban interstate widening from 4 to 6 lanes. Project Includes bridge replacement, interchange reconfiguration, stream relocation, sound barriers, safety improvements, traffic control, and utility coordination.
  • I-81 RECONSTRUCTION (Avoca, Moosic, and Scranton, PA) - Urban Interstate reconstruction including mainline widening, 2 interchanges being fully reconstructed including ramp realignments, intersection improvements, right-of- way coordination, and structure coordination for 15 bridges along mainline and ramps.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop design criteria, horizontal and vertical alignments, superelevation, barrier/guiderail design, and spot elevation details
  • Develop rigid and flexible pavement designs
  • Prepare signing and pavement marking plans and details
  • Prepare construction phasing plans and develop maintenance of traffic based on interdisciplinary coordination and constructability reviews
  • Identify utility conflicts and coordinate resolutions based on interdisciplinary constructability reviews, client feedback, and utility needs
  • Develop construction quantities and cost estimates
  • Implement 3D CADD modeling techniques
  • Develop technical reports, tables, and graphics per client and/or internal AECOM standards
  • Adhere to and promote AECOM quality procedures
  • Work collaboratively as part of a larger design team to proactively meet the client’s scope, budget, and schedule through ethical and responsible decision making
  • Acquires skills through education, training, and new experiences
  • Receives guidance and support on new assignments and begins to work independently on more straightforward tasks
  • Accountable for specific portions of a project or process with general oversight.
  • Analyze issues and apply solutions using standard procedures and known techniques
  • Apply judgement withing defined parameters to find the best solution
  • Provide feedback about existing procedures and contribute to new ideas and approaches
  • Learn to be responsive to latest information and adapt to modified approaches when circumstances change
  • Apply education, growing industry knowledge, technical capabilities and experience to perform assignments
