We’re looking for a Business Development Lead to head up our clients' energy sales and partnerships within South Africa’smunicipal energy market.
Municipalities play a critical role in energy distribution, and we need a dynamic leader who can unlock new sales opportunities, drive regulatory alignment, and position our client as the go-to strategicenergy partner. Whether it's direct energy sales to municipalities or enabling wheelingsolutions for third-party customers, your expertise will be instrumental!
To be considered for this role, you need to understand municipal procurement policies and have experience working with NERSA, Eskom and public sector frameworks. We need a strategic influencer who can build trust with stakeholders, negotiate high-value contracts and advocate for policy change.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Market & Opportunity Analysis: Develop and implement a strategic plan to penetrate the municipal energy sector, identifying high-potential sales opportunities through research on municipal energy demand, procurement processes, and regulations
Business Planning & Strategy Development: Create financially and operationally viable business plans for municipal energy solutions, ensuring scalability and long-term growth
Stakeholder & Partnership Engagement: Establish and strengthen relationships with municipal leaders, energy managers, procurement officials, and regulatory bodies to drive strategic partnerships and sales
Regulatory & Compliance Management: Monitor policy changes, municipal procurement regulations, and industry developments, advocating for business-friendly energy policies that promote private-sector participation
Sales & Business Development Execution: Develop compelling proposals for municipalities, lead contract negotiations, and structure Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) to facilitate energy adoption
Product & Solution Development: Identify key municipalities for energy trading, wheeling, and direct supply agreements while building a pipeline of municipal-connected customers for alternative energy solutions
Performance Tracking & Reporting: Track market access progress, regulatory milestones, and signed municipal agreements, providing leadership with insights on sales conversion rates, advocacy efforts, and stakeholder engagement
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with product development, legal, and trading teams to align energy solutions with overall business strategy
Innovation & Industry Best Practices: Research global and regional trends in municipal energy markets to optimise renewable energy solutions and drive innovation
