About the role BURN is seeking a Carbon Strategy Associate to support our cookstove carbon projects. This role will combine strategic thinking with analysis of carbon project monitoring and evaluation.

Duties and Responsibilities
Undertake diverse analytical work related to inform BURN’s carbon strategy
Oversee the collection and analysis of data related to industry trends (market landscape, policy, standards, ratings and competitor activity) to inform strategic decision making for carbon projects
Track compliance carbon markets, including new developments in Article 6.2 bilateral agreements, Article 6.4 (PACM), and CORSIA
Support the carbon sales team with up to date information that they need to close deals
Build, interrogate and present financial models, demonstrating the “so what”
Track developments in integrity and methodology design across the carbon sector
Write succinct and persuasive thought leadership pieces on carbon integrity
Analyse carbon methodologies and their variables – including modelling emission reductions (ERs), and supporting sector conversations on methodology redesign
Work closely with carbon ratings agencies to provide the information they require
Work closely with other departments (e.g., carbon operations) to ensure integrity across all our programmes
Read, summarise and present key developments in integrity and relevant academic research to management
Respond to consultations on behalf of BURN
Produce regular and ad-hoc research reports
Complete all reporting activities accurately and on time
Collaborate effectively across departments
Skills and Experience
Master’s degree – ideally in social science research or economics
Ideally 5 years’ work experience
Experience of strategic consulting and/or monitoring and evaluation
Demonstrated ability to conduct diverse analytical work
Experience of the carbon sector is desirable, but not essential
Experience of (or willingness to learn) the technicalities of carbon methodologies
Fluency in excel modelling
Understanding of social research methods and their application in the global south
Demonstrated ability to digest large volumes of information, select the key points, grasp the “so what,” and present it clearly to management
Excellent communication skills in both written and spoken English
Excellent research and analysis skills
