As a Dams and & Hydropower Engineer, it will be expected from the applicant to provide technical input in feasibility studies, design and inspections in the disciplines of dam and associated structures for a wide range of dam and hydropower projects in Africa and around the world.
The successful applicant will be required to undertake:
• Hydrological analyses of catchment runoff and watercourses.
• Dam safety inspections and evaluations.
• Design of all types of dams (foundation design, stability analysis, etc.)
• Hydraulic analyses and design of spillways, outlet works and other hydraulic structures.
• Dam break studies.
• Preparation of project specifications, bill of quantities and tender documentation.
• Quality assurance during the construction of dam projects.
• Compiling Operation and Maintenance manuals and Emergency preparedness plans.


Minimum requirements
• 4 years’ of experience in dam engineering field
• Strong knowledge of dam safety regulations and guidelines.
• Experience in the use of design software technology applications (e.g. HEC-RAS, Rocscience Slide, Geostudio, Autocad, Civil 3D, etc.) - highly advantageous.
• Experience in the Approved Professional Person Team– advantageous.
• Experience in construction supervision, applying dam engineering principles – advantageous.
• Knowledge of multi-disciplinary interfacing – advantageous.
• Knowledge on hydropower - advantageous
• Willingness to travel for site inspections and project work.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.


Qualifications Required:
• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, or equivalent.
• Registered as a Professional Engineer with ECSA or working towards registration.
• Master's degree in civil engineering, or related field - advantageous.
