BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems is currently looking for “dynamic, results driven” individual to join as Packaging Engineer (M/F/D) at our production plant in Viana, Portugal.

Key Accountabilities:

• Oversee and manage the entire packaging development process, including the creation of packaging designs, prototype development and performance tests.
• Solve new and existing packaging problems involving designs, materials and processes and provide creative, appropriate and cost-effective solutions.
• In conjunction with Engineering, analyze product drawings and specifications to determine the physical characteristics of the item, special handling, environmental and safety requirements, and types of materials needed for packaging.
• Establish standards and guidelines to guide the Purchasing Department in selecting the best supplier;
• Evaluate and select packaging material suppliers (indirect);
• Work closely with global suppliers, Engineering, Quality, Launch, Product Management, Operations and Sourcing;
• Participate in product introduction teams to ensure the development of one/several packaging solutions;
• Work closely with Engineering to optimize the packaging supply base for cost, delivery time, quality, regionalization, standardization, supply assurance, and compliance with customer, regulatory, and internal requirements;
• Coordinate work teams from various areas to validate customer packaging solutions;
  Ensure the preparation of all work instructions related to internal repacking and customer packaging;
• Responsible for maintaining packaging material master data in SAP and its association with the Bill of Materials (BOM) for products, as well as maintaining information on platforms such as Team Center and SAP;
• Together with the Warehouse, work on continuous improvement related to packaging, layouts, flows, and supply routes;
• Prepare instructions for all Warehouse activities and keep them updated;
• Given the volumes of each project, determine the necessary headcount for each project;
• Analyze data related to transportation to optimize costs that require packaging reformulation;
• Keep the database updated – Plan For Every Part (PFEP).

Education & Experience

• Degree and/or Master's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Supply Chain, Logistics or equivalent is required;
• Experience in the automotive industry and/or EMS is an advantage;
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, Lotus Notes, eRFQ, Web-based Intranet Systems (knowledge of MRP systems is a plus);
• Practical experience with warehouse management software and databases;
• Knowledge in Team Center and Autocad;
• Ability to lead a team (ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously);
• Enthusiastic, flexible, and sharp approach to learning;
• Critical thinking ability and good problem-solving skills;
• Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with all levels of the organization;
• Ability to work well under pressure and prioritize work accordingly;
• Must be able to work independently with minimal guidance but also be able to operate effectively as part of a team;
• Must be self-motivated/driven to results. Required to determine most, if not all, of their own work assignments, tactical and strategic;
• Knowledge of several languages: Portuguese (fluent), English (fluent), and German (plus);
• Availability to travel.
