Job Description

Staff Level Analytical Scientist

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and validate analytical methods using Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP-MS, ICP-OES), X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM, SEM-EDS), and other material characterization techniques.
  • Define and build best practices in material sampling, sample preparation, instrumental analysis, data analysis, and result reporting.
  • Coordinate & implement cross-functional experiments with research, process engineering, & quality teams.
  • Write and review Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), train cross-functional teams
  • members on analytical techniques.
  • Prepare reports and present technical data to engineering and quality teams.

Knowledge and skill requirements:

  • Degree in Chemistry, Material Science, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent with 6+ years of experience in analytical chemistry, quality control, and/or process development.
  • Expertise with ICP-MS, ICP-OES, or other trace element analysis techniques is preferred.
  • Well versed in analytical techniques including particle size analysis, Raman spectroscopy, BET gas adsorption analysis, crush strength, density analysis (bulk density, tap density, true density), TGA, static image analysis, gas chromatography, and others. 
  • Significant experience in analytical method development and validation.
  • Significant experience with six sigma concepts, statistical process control, precision and bias testing, and gauge R&R.
  • Experience initiating work and engaging Environmental Health and Safety teams to evaluate and review materials, procedures, and laboratory environments to ensure safe operations at all times. 
  • Experience in clean manufacturing, GMP, and/or ISO certification laboratories and production environments.
  • Experience bringing technologies from bench scale to high volume manufacturing.
  • Experience with powder sampling and material characterization. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

Results Expected:

  • Well versed in analytical chemistry & QA/QC techniques to characterize Sila materials, including ICP, XRF, SEM-EDS, BET, TGA, optical microscopy (static image analysis), and Laser PSA.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn & perform statistical analysis to evaluate measurement precision and accuracy.
  • Proficient with techniques in analytical method validation including intermediate precision and Gauge R&R. 
  • Demonstrated experience working in a fast paced environment with constantly evolving information and priorities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a laptop, copier/printer machine, etc.
  • Pass a respirator fit test and be able to wear respiratory protection.
  • Repetitive use of hands - light to forceful handling of material.
  • Wear personal protective equipment including, but not limited to, a lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, and steel toe safety shoes.
  • Precise and repetitive handling of a range of material quantities.
