We are looking for a full-time Power Markets Research Analyst to join Wood Mackenzie’s Power and Renewables Modelling team, focusing on the analysis of European power markets from a short-term perspective (intraday, balancing and spot markets).

The team’s research spans power market fundamentals and price forecasting to asset valuation and strategy that comprises some of the most highly utilized data, reports, and insights across Wood Mackenzie. The team consists of detail-oriented industry experts, commercially savvy and has strong technical abilities.

In your new role you will be responsible for developing, improving and maintaining price forecasting models in various geographies in Europe. This will cover power market fundamentals, including demand, weather and renewables forecasts as well as other price drivers. Wood Mackenzie’s models incorporate thousands of data parameters and detailed market information to forecast power flows, generation and prices based on key market drivers.

The successful candidate will have interest in both, analytics and the power industry. Your experience in the field of European power markets proves you hold these characteristics and are comfortable taking complex, disparate ideas and distilling them into simple, actionable information.

About You

• You are intellectually curious, collaborative, innovative, organised, and detail orientated.
• You are also committed to providing great service to our clients and have a strong commitment to the growth and success of our team.
• Familiarity with key commercial frameworks in the power sector – such as auction regimes, power purchase agreements, cross border power exchange mechanisms, capacity and ancillary markets – and the objectives of European energy policy are beneficial.
• You can think strategically, contributing to product development and planning, and be able to learn, improve and expand our research processes.
• You have experience working with complex data and demonstrate an affinity with numbers.
• Experience with one or more of the following would round up your skillset: Python, R, SQL, PowerBI, machine learning algorithms, mathematical optimization, linear programming, statistical methods as well as expertise in strengths and weaknesses of both traditional forecasting tools and machine learning algorithms.
• Knowledge of an additional European language besides English would be an advantage.
