Senior UI Designer (Volunteer, Remote)

Note: The following is an opportunity for flexible, part-time, volunteer work to address climate change. Please DO NOT APPLY if you are only looking for paid employment. A 6-month commitment is preferred. This is a remote-from-home position.

Earth Hero is a global all-volunteer nonprofit organization with users in 153 countries. We exist to make it easy to act on climate change. The climate emergency we currently face requires adequate and immediate action. It is one of the most threatening crises of our time. We are looking for action-oriented individuals who are excited about addressing climate change. As a startup, we are looking for people who will help build and scale our impact and at the same time are willing to roll up their sleeves to get stuff done! Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the product team to ship and improve features
• Create new designs for the mobile, web, or other formats using Figma.
• Facilitate, review and help with the work of other design volunteers
• Work with user researchers to understand the needs of climate activists
• Refine and expand our component library

Experience useful in this role

• 5+ years of experience working in teams and designing
• Good knowledge of design patterns across platforms (Android, iOS, web)
• Building component libraries or design systems
• Experience working with other designers, developers, and user researchers
• Working across teams to set and measure outcomes for design 
• Experience using Figma
• Taking initiative, learning new things, and applying them

Expectations

You will work remotely and on your own schedule. Roles work best with a minimum commitment of 6 months for 3-10 hours a week (or more if you like!). Because our all-volunteer team is spread throughout the world, we rely mostly on a combination of Slack and video calls to communicate.

If you possess a high level of self-motivation, work well independently, have strong collaboration skills, enjoy the opportunity to partner with like-minded individuals, and can commit quality time per week to help achieve team goals, we would love to hear from you.
