Job Description

About Planet FWD

Planet FWD is on a mission to help address climate change by making it easier to bring climate-friendly products to market. Our work is grounded in rigorous science and data, and starts with product life cycle assessments and corporate greenhouse gas inventories using our proprietary software platform, tools and databases. We then guide companies through the process of reducing the climate impacts of their products and operations, and finally help them offset their unavoidable emissions.

We believe that together we have the power to tackle climate change. You’ll have the opportunity to build relationships with our small and highly passionate team. When working remotely, we have a daily team check-in and biweekly happy half hour where we celebrate team members for embodying our core values in their work. Our core values are: grace, integrity, equity, courage, commitment, clarity, judgement, and catalytic creativity. A summary of our company culture can be found here.

About you

You are passionate about using technology to tackle climate change and are excited about being part of the solution. You are seeking a challenging and significant role in a fast-paced start-up environment where you can contribute meaningfully to the mitigation of climate change through data and analytics.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a data researcher responsible for acquiring and maintaining detailed data on agricultural production of food commodities and food processing methods
  • Use our life cycle assessment (LCA) software to convert production and processing data into database entries to streamline and automate the customer product LCAs and corporate greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories performed using our software platforms
  • Conduct custom LCAs and GHG inventories as needed
  • Grow into a subject matter expert in LCAs and GHG emissions accounting in the food and agriculture space initially, and then in other consumer sectors
  • Collaborate with other team members to drive continuous improvement of our products and processes
  • Stay abreast of the scientific literature in LCAs and GHG inventories

What you will bring:

  • Good working knowledge of agricultural practices and food processing technologies, or the ability to learn rapidly
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills, including good Excel and database skills
  • Detail-orientation and ability to deliver rigorous data/analysis with clearly communicated methodology and documentation
  • Problem-solving mindset with a test-and-learn approach to quickly and continually improve our product and processes
  • Alignment with our company values and ability to communicate in harmony with these principles

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BS or MS in environmental science, agriculture, food technology, or related field
  • Academic or industry experience with product LCAs and some familiarity with underlying life cycle inventory databases
  • Understanding of agricultural GHG emissions and modeling considerations would be a strong plus
