The purpose of this position is responsibility for interpreting data from the corporate safety and compliance programs, analyzing results using statistical techniques, and providing ongoing reports to management. The SMS Specialist will assist the SMS Manager who is the central point of coordination for the management of the Company's safety reporting programs in support of the Safety Management System (SMS).

Responsibilities

  • Providing management guidance and oversight of the Wisk SMS 
  • Analyze technical data from hazards, events and occurrences, and identify, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets
  • Track, analyze, and interpret data outputs from the Company's safety programs
  • Assist in the administration of the corporate databases for the purpose of improved product and operational safety
  • As required, participate in safety investigations. Based on the outcomes from the investigation identify outcomes to improve safety and refine the SMS
  • Provide technical expertise to SMS Manager regarding data models, database design development, and data mining
  • Assist in promoting a safety culture across the company
  • Prepare applicable reports and communicate safety related information to managers and line personnel in support of the Safety Management System (SMS)
  • Assist Leadership in the management, continuous improvement, coordination, and execution of a SMS in accordance with the guidance contained in ICAO Annex 19, 14 CFR Part 5, and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Advisory Circular (AC) 120-92B
  • Assist the SMS Manager with the administration, tracking and planning of Safety Review Board meetings to ensure proper scheduling, agenda planning, management of risks, corrective action tracking, and documentation of meeting actions and decisions
  • Manage relationships with representatives from all operational departments, regulatory authorities, and other relevant areas of the organization regarding the management of Wisk’s SMS
  • Prepare applicable reports and communicate safety related information to all levels of the organization, including Senior Leadership
  • Assist with the development, delivery and maintenance of SMS training to ensure existing and  new hires possess the competencies appropriate with their role in Wisk’s SMS
  • Attend relevant sector and other aviation industry meetings and participate in a proactive way to ensure the company’s views are well represented.

Required

  • College degree in Aviation Management or related field or equivalent experience
  • 3 years' experience in aviation industry including management experience, with at least 1 year of specific experience in safety
  • Strong technical and data analysis skills
  • High level of proficiency with data analysis software programs
  • Experience with industry safety management systems
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including technical and business writing skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with minimal to no oversight
  • Ability to be flexible, work under pressure, multitask and make critical decisions in a fast-paced environment

Desired

  • Experience with industry safety data programs such as ASIAS and OSHA
  • Expert knowledge of aviation safety and accident prevention and experience in the use of FAA, NTSB or ICAO documentation
  • Experience with implementing Safety Management Systems (SMS)
  • FAA (or equiv) pilot certificate
  • FAA (or equiv) mechanics certificate
  • Experience with Safety/Risk Standards such as ISO 31000
