Job Description

Acciona Rail has a strong presence throughout Australia supporting and supplying the country’s rail infrastructure, we provide construction services for major rail and transport infrastructure projects Australia-wide.    The Minor Works team are instrumental in looking after maintenance works from upgrading track and bridges to installing concrete walls and modernizing train stations and platforms.

The Opportunity

Reporting directly into the Project Manager, you will be responsible for implementing Work Health & Safety and Rail Safety strategies, systems and initiatives that integrate safety consistently across the workplace.

Key Accountabilities for the position will be:

  • Undertake the vital task of coordinating health and safety systems within the project, including identifying hazards, assessing risks to health and safety, recommending appropriate safety controls to the construction team, and providing advice on incident prevention and work health to management and employees

  • Identify, review and analyse high-risk activities in conjunction with the appropriate personnel and recommend an approach to be taken

  • Ensure subcontractors and suppliers comply with legislation

  • Assess high-risk activities in conjunction with the appropriate personnel and recommend the best approach to take

  • Be actively involved in the investigation and debrief of all Lost Time Injuries and critical incidents that occur on the project

  • Assist in the reporting, incident investigation and suggestion of corrective and/or preventive actions resulting from identification of hazards, near miss incidents and work-related illness/injury

  • Regular site safety inspections and/or audits project and subcontractor activities

  • Review permits to work to ensure compliance with legal and organizational requirements

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Certificate IV in OH&S
  • Minimum 2 year demonstrated experience in a similar role
  • An understanding of South Australian WHS & Rail Safety legislation and processes, including competence in the implementation of WHS change initiatives
  • Exposure to in incident investigation and reporting requirements
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to influence leaders and employees across the organisation
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite
  • Current Drivers License and reliable vehicle
