Recognizing the unprecedented window of policy opportunity presented by the priority placed by the Biden-Harris Administration on addressing the climate crisis, Elemental Excelerator launched the Elemental Policy Lab on Earth Day, during US Climate Action Week 2021. The Lab’s work builds on Elemental’s experience as a climate tech accelerator, with the goal of driving results-focused policy solutions that tackle climate change and advance racial equity – our top priorities – which are also currently at the top of the national policy agenda.

Help us Create and Implement our Policy Strategy!

Elemental Excelerator’s Co-Director of the Policy Lab is responsible for co-developing and leading the organization’s policy strategy, alongside the Policy Lab’s Director and Elemental team, with the goal of furthering Elemental leadership at the intersection of climate change and social equity. The Co-Director of the Policy Lab will engage and mobilize policymakers, government partners, and policy influencers and connect them to real world learnings from the Elemental portfolio and ecosystem to influence and advance policy solutions that further climate innovation & social equity solutions. The position will also lead efforts to find key partners to accomplish policy goals, including funding partners. This position will report to Elemental’s Chief of Staff in a full time role, and work closely across the entire Elemental team.

The Co-Director of the Policy Lab will be responsible for the following key elements:

  • Co-develop and lead the strategy, priorities, and action plan for Elemental's policy work
  • Manage various programs and projects at the same time, and a team and individual contributor
  • Coordinate fundraising and partnerships for policy-related work with the Policy Lab team and the rest of the Elemental team
  • Develop strategies and relationships to make the Policy Lab a trusted resource for policymakers, government partners, entrepreneurs, and others in the ecosystem
  • Determine policy insights and narratives from Elemental’s work and the Elemental portfolio, and author thought pieces and other content
  • Advise Elemental portfolio companies on policy

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of combined policy experience at the national level and/or in California and/or Hawaii
  • Demonstrated success fundraising for non-profit or mission-driven organizations and working with donors
  • Policy work experience with issues of focus for Elemental (energy, water, agriculture, circular economy, mobility, climate change, social inequity)
  • Appetite for sharing Elemental’s learnings around policy and government interventions
  • Ability to work independently and in a dynamic, highly coordinated atmosphere
  • Detailed and thorough; capacity to work with deadlines and consistently follow through to completion of projects
  • Team-first demeanor and enthusiasm to contribute to Elemental’s broader mission
  • Ability to thrive on a fast-paced team
  • Evidence of living our four core values: Growth Mindset, Humility, Joyful Work, and Kuleana (responsibility and privilege)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working at the International and/or local level on policy development or implementation
  • Strong creative writing skills (e.g., ability to draft communications that are aligned with the Elemental tone and brand)
  • Leadership experience and a track record of building/managing high-performing teams

Other Details:

We will consider candidates located anywhere in the U.S.; however you will be expected to be available during working hours in one of our HQ locations, Honolulu, HI or East Palo Alto, CA, and when in-person work resumes be able to travel to our HQs or DC on a periodic basis (e.g., quarterly).
