Antenna is looking for a Media Strategist for our cleantech and mobility practices to strategize on, plan and execute media campaigns that secure the strongest possible results for our clients. In this role, the media strategist will serve as a primary resource for client-specific and practice-wide media relations efforts. They will regularly communicate with clients to explain Antenna’s recommended media strategy and update them on the status of media relations efforts, while also building strong relationships with key business, technology and energy reporters at top-tier, trade and broadcast outlets. They will be available as a flexible resource for the cleantech and mobility practices, serving a large group of clients on an ad-hoc or ongoing basis as needed.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Media Relations:

  • Formulate complete, ready-to-pitch media strategy around announcements, thought leadership topics, bylines and other client assets
  • Deliver effective, efficient and compelling written pitches
  • Own significant portions of media lists, conducting written and phone outreach that consistently secures feedback from top-tier, broadcast and trade media targets
  • Develop and/or assist teammates in developing media lists that reflect mastery of understanding all relevant media targets for the associated campaign
  • Respond to ad-hoc requests to advise on/edit materials for in-progress media campaigns

Client Relations:

  • Play a central role in thoroughly presenting and discussing media strategy with clients during regularly-scheduled syncs and calls focused on media relations activities
  • Be a primary point of contact for conveying the status of media outreach, media traction and campaign results to the client
  • Serve as a content development resource for clients, particularly for sourcing and development of press releases associated with assigned media campaigns.
  • Prepare for and join new business pitches alongside other members of the Media Practice, speaking to Antenna’s relevant media expertise and media relations activities for the potential client

 

Agency Development:

  • Formulate, develop and conduct proactive and reactive group pitch campaigns alongside other members of the Media Practice
  • Maintain regular contact with key journalists outside of pitching specific clients - aim for monthly/quarterly update calls to gather insights that can be passed to the entire practice or agency
  • Through 1-on-1 mentorship and training on best practices, work with Antenna junior staff to cultivate stronger skills in pitch writing, phone pitching, media list building and other core media relations activities
  • Identify new opportunities to develop practice-wide media relations resources (e.g. client roster) and work with other members of the Media Practice to develop new resources
  • Update media contact information/handle ongoing maintenance on Propel and other media services platforms

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2-3 years of direct experience in media relations or related areas
  • Interest in and basic knowledge of clean energy/sustainability technologies, climate mitigation/adaptation technologies, smart cities, and/or advanced mobility
  • Detail oriented, organized and ability to manage time effectively
  • Self-motivated, proactive and flexible
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong writing, editing and communication skills
  • Ability to think creatively and problem solve on client relationships, as well as on strategy and tactics
