About the Role:  

The Director of Engineering Operations at planet must be a fearless organizer and an excellent cross-functional leader with multiple teams, both inside Planet and with external partners. A successful candidate will help set strategy, execute on schedule and be responsible for managing/communicating status and issues along the way. 

This includes helping to set the program development strategy by managing ROI inputs and top level program plans (resource loaded, capex, opex, timelines) advising leadership on true cost of investments. The position demands technical strength and expertise in many areas, including optical, mechanical, electrical, embedded software, Rf and manufacturing.

Impact You’ll Own:

• Define project plans and schedules. 
• Drive project strategy and execution. 
• Support all technical directors, engineering managers, and SMEs, helping to ensure programmatic success. 
• Lead internal and external cross-functional teams in engineering and validation activities. 
• Ensure tight inter-team coordination and communication and advise leadership on resource constraints and technical bottlenecks.
• Set, define and execute the program plan per planet’s unique culture and design playbook (agile development, meetings cadence, escalation path, RACI, etc)
• Ensure risk is properly assessed and escalated. Strong Presentation And Communication Skills Required.
• Understand and communicate complex, technical/Engineering issues Identify and resolve conflicts, inter-dependencies and program issues quickly and efficiently.
• Manage development budgets, engineering builds, sustaining operations, and future critical r&d investments
