WHO YOU ARE

As a Supervisor in the R&D Operations group, you will organize and coordinate the work of Research Assistants that synthesize new versions of Sila materials and convert these materials into lithium-ion battery concepts, assembling and testing those batteries. You are an attentive, diligent and curious technical supervisor who will improve and accelerate our path to demonstrate the next generation of battery materials. You are someone who takes ownership of your work and the results and needs of your team, strives for perfection and is passionate about understanding, setting and achieving team goals and objectives.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Organize, schedule, support and improve  the work of Research Assistants performing operations in the R&D Materials Synthesis Line and the Battery Assembly and Test Lab 
  • As part of the R&D operations management team, help coordinate and translate into operational goals the objectives and priorities of the Sila R&D and Battery functions
  • After a learning period, lead and train the team on the different operations involved in the synthesis of Sila materials and the assembly and test of lithium-ion batteries
  • Drive and support the implementation of lean manufacturing practices and the attachment to quality control procedures
  • Identify areas of improvement around operational metrics and data recording methods, and coordinate the implementation of those improvements
  • Manage inventory and maintain a tidy and effective work area
  • Work collaboratively with other teams of technicians, engineers, and scientists and effectively communicate results to troubleshoot, correct, and prevent issues

REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience leading teams in industrial or research environments
  • Attention to detail working with materials and equipment and ability to identify risks during the performance of such activities
  • History of consistently completing and supporting others to complete tasks efficiently
  • Extensive knowledge of laboratory or industrial equipment and basic computer operation
  • Logical thought process and ability to share knowledge
  • Like to engage others in teamwork while also capable of solving problems alone
  • Flexibility to work shift hours and accommodate to occasional adjustments
  • Industrial or laboratory experience in material synthesis or Lithium ion batteries is helpful

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Pass a respirator fit test and be able to wear respiratory protection on a daily basis
  • Wear personal protective equipment including, but not limited to, a lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, and steel toe safety shoes
  • Reach low shelves or items on the floor
  • Enter spaces narrower than 3 feet
  • Precise and repetitive handling of a range of material quantities
