Job Description

Due to continued growth, we are looking for a Head of People and Culture to join our team. 

You will be working in a fully remote distributed team across multiple disciplines at a science-oriented company and you will do this hand in hand with co-Founders José Ignacio Galindo, CEO - and Olivia Cesio, COO. Chief Science Officer at Waterplan is world-renowned hydrologist Jay Famiglietti.

At Waterplan we work in long term water security within the context of climate change adaptation.

Waterplan is a fast growing startup in the Climate Tech Space that develops a SaaS platform for companies to manage water availability in their facilities.

The platform combines companies' operational data with local water satellite imagery to provide a real-time financial assessment of water risk. Based on that, it offers tailored mitigation and adaptation opportunities, from conventional infrastructure to nature based solutions.
By showing companies the business case for mitigating water risk, Waterplan will accelerate their transition to a world where companies are incentivized to save more water, abate the discharge of polluting effluents, conserve watersheds and preserve shared value.
At Waterplan you will be working in the first company in the water tech space focused on water risks triggered by climate change, this will provide you the chance to work on the forefront of our industry.

Please note, this is a fully remote, full time position. 

About the opportunity:

You will be an important strategic partner to the Chief Operations Officer and wider executive leadership team, putting in place the forward-thinking, innovative people practices that will deliver an exceptional experience to every team member at Waterplan, while achieving our goal of being a full remote and borderless global team. 

You will be a passionate advocate of Waterplan’s culture and ensure that our values are embedded in all our people's practices. You will understand our strategic goals and the critical role that People & Culture plays in achieving them.

About your core focus:

Culture: Maximize the employee experience, drive a robust organizational climate, aim to Attract, Develop and Retain the right talent to the organization.

  • Work with leadership to develop strategies that ensure employee engagement, high morale, and retention with diversity, and inclusion at the forefront
  • Thoughtfully supports and facilitates conversations including Townhalls (strategy development and updating), meetings, presentations, etc. to build understanding, roll out key initiatives and advance the organization's culture and values
  • Connect with employees on a regular basis to proactively identify people's needs, and address them.
  • Facilitating group development through team building and off-sites

Recruiting:  Attracting and Recruiting Diverse, Well-Qualified Candidates

  • Manage critical elements of the hiring process, including posting job descriptions, reviewing applications and determining whether they meet qualification requirements, corresponding with applicants, scheduling interviews, drafting interview questions, tracking applicant progress through the hiring process, and following up with hiring staff members to support communication with applicants.
  • Collaborate with COO on employees’ life cycle, from pre-boarding, through on-boarding and off-boarding

Compensations and Benefits:  Administering Benefits and Ensuring Compliance

  • Oversee Benefit and Compensation, develop incentive and rewards programs.

People Development: Helping Develop Talent and Drive Performance

  • Collaborate the Leadership Team to align organizational and people capabilities with the business strategy and needs.
  • In the near future, support the Leadership team creating a performance management process to enable us to have candid conversations with our employees about their performance and their development
  • In the near future, support the Leadership team developing and implement methods to assess employee engagement in our remote work environment and develop strategies and implement action plans to address any areas for improvement
  • In the near future, support the Leadership team creating career paths across geographies, businesses & functions

Skills and Qualifications

  • A solid understanding of the culture of a technology company, its people, and how it functions is essential to success in this position.
  • Proficient in English
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment with a goal-oriented approach
  • 3+ years in a people, culture, talent focused role within a global organization 
  • Coaching skills
  • Entrepreneurial drive and a desire for continuous learning
  • A problem-solving mindset
