Job Description

OVERVIEW

We are seeking a passionate individual to join a team of roboticists, computational Chemistry researchers, electrical and mechanical engineers, and data scientists currently developing state-of-the-art methods and instruments for Soil health assessment. The Signal Processing Engineer is responsible for developing algorithms to analyze and interpret spectroscopic signals of complex materials, including soil. The work is focused on identifying and extracting the spectral signature of selected materials.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS                                              

Reporting to the VP of Engineering, the Signal Processing Engineer will work closely with the Computational Chemistry and Machine Learning engineering teams to design a post-processing pipeline to analyze and interpret the spectral signatures of various components in soil and other materials.                                                                                                                           

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Contributes to system-level design and implementation of real-time soil spectroscopy and analysis solutions
  • Develops tools and codes to characterize both computational and experimental spectroscopy datasets
  • Develops Python/C signal processing algorithms for the detection and extraction of both known and unknown signal types
  • Develops Python/C tools and codes for raw data set characterization (SNR, modulation type, etc.)
  • Analyzes existing data sets and plans future campaigns to collect new data sets based on the Machine Learning requirements.
  • Authors contribute substantially to proposals, documentation, and procedures for internal and external projects.
  • Work with the team of software engineers to put the models into production.
  • Perform other related duties in keeping with the purpose and accountabilities of the job.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Sc. or Ph.D. degree in Signal Processing, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or related disciplines
  • Advanced signal processing techniques for detecting and characterizing unknown signal structures
  • Proficient with filtering methods, filter bank, Wavelet analysis, ratio of performance to deviation (RPD) analysis, Savitzky–Golay smoothing, Derivatives, and Multiplicative Scatter Correction
  • Knowledge and research experience of standard spectroscopy techniques
  • Understanding of research and techniques in processing spectroscopic data
  • Experience with coding for GPUs and other compute-intensive platforms
  • Strong Linux and open-source background
  • Experience developing software utilizing Python and Python packages like Nippy, C or R and R packages like ProSpectr and Caret
  • Advanced knowledge of Preprocessing, Sampling, clustering, modeling
  • Strong publication record
  • Knowledge of the Agile project management methodology
