This person will be responsible for the architecture, design, and technical direction of our power conversion systems. You’ll play a critical role in shaping how energy moves within and beyond our battery systems—from cell to grid. We’re seeking someone with deep technical experience and a track record of shipping high-reliability, high-voltage power systems. This role is ideal for a hands-on engineer who wants to own hard problems, work cross-functionally, and help build world-class energy storage products from the ground up.  Responsibilities: <ul><li>Lead the design and development of high-voltage power conversion systems within Peak’s energy storage platform—including DC/AC inverters, bidirectional DC/DC converters and protection circuitry. </li></ul><ul><li>Define and maintain system-level electrical requirements for power stages, gate drives, control loops, safety interfaces, and EMI/EMC performance. </li></ul><ul><li>Select and integrate key components (e.g., IGBTs, SiC/GaN FETs, magnetics, busbars, filters) and collaborate closely with mechanical and thermal engineers to support packaging and cooling. </li></ul><ul><li>Own system-level testing and validation—both in-lab and in-field—including HV safety, transient behavior, thermal performance, and fault response. </li></ul><ul><li>Interface with firmware, controls, and systems teams to ensure robust hardware/software integration and safe system operation. </li></ul><ul><li>Support regulatory certification and compliance activities (e.g., IEEE 2800, UL 1741, IEEE 1547, IEC 62109). </li></ul><ul><li>Act as a technical leader and mentor across the ESS team—setting high standards, reviewing designs, and driving toward first-principles, scalable solutions. </li></ul> Minimum Qualifications:  <ul><li>8+ years of experience designing power conversion systems for energy storage, renewables, automotive, or industrial applications. </li></ul><ul><li>Expertise in high-power and high-voltage (100kW+) converters and inverters—particularly in topologies, switching devices, protection, and control strategies. </li></ul><ul><li>Strong working knowledge of high-voltage system design, insulation coordination, and thermal management. </li></ul><ul><li>Skilled in simulation and design tools (e.g., SPICE, PLECS, MATLAB/Simulink, Altium) and comfortable with lab testing in HV environments. </li></ul><ul><li>Deep understanding of compliance and grid standards including IEEE2800, UL 1741, IEEE 1547, and IEC safety requirements. </li></ul><ul><li>Excellent communicator and collaborator, capable of aligning with cross-functional teams and driving high-quality decisions. </li></ul><ul><li>Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related field. </li></ul> Preferred Qualifications:  <ul><li>Experience with silicon carbide (SiC) module integration and design for manufacturability. </li></ul><ul><li>Exposure to full ESS architecture and system integration challenges (e.g., BMS, EMS, HVDC interfacing). </li></ul><ul><li>Prior work in startups or early-stage product environments. </li></ul>Peak Energy Core Values <ul><li>Speed Through Focus: Prioritize what matters most and execute quickly without distractions. </li></ul><ul><li>Mission Over Self: Put the company's mission and team success ahead of individual interests. </li></ul><ul><li>Face the Brutal Truth: Embrace honesty, even when it’s uncomfortable, to make informed decisions. </li></ul><ul><li>Be a Good Person: Treat everyone with respect and integrity, fostering a positive and ethical work environment. </li></ul>The salary range for this role is $185,000 - $250,000, with actual pay varying based on work location, experience, and skills.  Our competitive benefits package includes flexible PTO, comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, a strong 401(k) plan, and equity opportunities.
