About the Role: 

As Director, Research at AppHarvest, you will join a team that is redefining sustainable agriculture by being a key leader in our research group within our Robotics division, leading all things research in robotics. This role will be based in Burlington, Massachusetts. 

What You'll Do: 

• Engineering leadership and management of research team (6 with plans to grow to 7 by EoY) 
• Will lead research planning and project management 
• Communicate research progress upwards and downwards on project updates, objectives, and deliverables  

What We’re Looking For: 

• Master's degree required, or PhD preferred  
• Technical background in AI, CV, or ML – specific experience in robotics and or manipulation and dexterity preferred  
• Must be a "been there done that" on managing research or early development-oriented teams of at least 5-7 (preferably 10+) in-industry or at a major "think tank" or non-academic research lab    
• Exceptional ability to communicate upwards and downwards with non-technical stakeholders about research progress    
• An entrepreneurial mindset and ability to turn big-picture thinking into detail-oriented execution  
• A “figure it out” mentality and challenge any notion that “this can’t be done”  
• Must be local to Boston or willing relocate with availability for up to 25% ratio of travel (domestic + international)
