Job Description

About the Role:

As an Maintenance Energy Engineer, you will be joining a team at the forefront of reinventing sustainable agriculture, while managing and overseeing the energy project management conservation efforts including long range plans for energy systems and renewable energy sources across multiple sites.

What You’ll Do:

  • Read, analyze, interpret technical, financial, and legal documents, such as power and natural gas supply agreements, transmission tariffs, swap agreements, operating agreements, transmission agreements, and transportation/transmission tariff agreements
  • Negotiate power and natural gas supply agreements, transmission tariffs, swap agreements, operating agreements, transmission agreements, and transportation/transmission tariff agreements
  • Create and oversee the implementation of short and long-term projects and strategies that increase energy efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and minimize unnecessary consumption. Implement energy-related cost-saving measures. Throughout the development process, calculate the budget, project energy savings, and identify the goals for each project. Work with the operations team to craft and implement the measures
  • Complete energy audits and development energy saving strategies. Create and monitor utility budgets. This will include calculating current energy costs as well as the potential savings of upcoming projects. Prepare budget reports and cost estimates to send to senior managers
  • Prepare formal proposals for all new projects, including projected costs and energy savings. Submit formal documentation and status updates for all current projects, regular utility consumption data reports and documentation of results for completed projects Present information to senior management to make energy-related recommendations
  • Evaluate functionality and reliability of facility systems and associated equipment by conferring with operating departments, identifying problems and requirements
  • Improve function and reliability of facility systems and associated equipment by studying performance results, identifying, recommending, and implementing changes, expansions, and additions
  • Self-manage time and workload and communicate regularly with management and other members of the team to manage expectations about timing and quality of work. Ensure timely delivery of project deliverables and communicate issues as they arise
  • Maintain technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing technical publications, and establishing personal networks
  • Assist in developing energy usage and demand forecasts for new and existing greenhouses
  • Validate monthly energy invoices, seeking correction when appropriate. Act as the main point-of-contact with energy vendors such as suppliers and utilities
  • Calculate CO2 emissions and CO2 plant absorption rates in a greenhouse environment

What We’re Looking For:

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university, 5+ years of energy industry experience or equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the discipline. 5+ years’ experience in energy management, building technology, and/or facilities operation
  • Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Green Associate
  • ASHRAE Level I, II, and III energy audits
  • Project management experience
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups
  • Strong quantitative and technical skills
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of complex instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form

Physical Requirement:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear and taste or smell. Must be able to stand for periods of time, or walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Must be frequently able to lift or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift or move up to 100 lbs. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.

Working Conditions:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and may be frequently exposed to the risk of electrical shock and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high precarious places up to 30 feet, fumes, or airborne particles; inclement weather conditions, and loud noise levels in the work environment.
