This team focuses on scaling up an electrolyzer that releases CO₂ from its captured state, helping push our carbon removal process toward industrial scale. How you'll contribute Specifically, you will… <ul><li>Set up and maintain experimental systems for CO₂ desorption.</li><li>Ideate and conduct electrochemical tests as part of the desorption research team.</li><li>Prepare samples for chemical, mechanical, and electrochemical analysis.</li><li>Analyze and process experimental data and summarize key findings.</li><li>Support general laboratory operations and ensure a safe, organized workspace.</li></ul>Your first 12 months in the role: expectations and deliverables Months 0-3 <ul><li>Get to know our team, culture, and the fundamentals of our technology and lab setup.</li><li>Assist in experimental setup for electrolyzer testing and CO₂ desorption studies.</li><li>Learn and apply lab safety standards, documentation practices, and analytical techniques.</li><li>Begin contributing to sample preparation and running electrochemical tests under supervision.</li></ul>Months 3-6 <ul><li>Independently run standard electrochemical test protocols and analyze results.</li><li>Maintain detailed experiment logs and assist in report writing for internal knowledge sharing.</li><li>Support data processing and improve existing lab documentation.</li><li>Begin contributing to refinement of experimental procedures and basic troubleshooting.</li></ul>Months 6-12 <ul><li>Take ownership of a specific technical workstream (e.g., electrolyte development, material screening).</li><li>Contribute to hypothesis-driven experiment design and structured analysis of results.</li><li>Collaborate with other functional teams (e.g., modeling, systems, process engineering).</li><li>Optionally, initiate and scope a thesis project aligned with your contributions.</li></ul> About you <ul><li>Enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field (Master’s preferred).</li><li>Fluency in both German and English (written and spoken) is required</li><li>Experience in electrochemistry and the role it plays in climate solutions.</li><li>Known for a structured, hands-on approach and attention to detail.</li><li>Motivated by the opportunity to contribute to real-world experiments with measurable impact.</li><li>Comfortable working both independently and as part of a tight-knit research team.</li></ul> What we offer <ul><li>20 days vacation plus public holidays to ensure you also have the down time needed to rest and recharge.</li><li>The possibility to grow and shape your role.</li><li>Working with founders who understand - and invest time in - the importance of building a healthy and sustainable organization.</li><li>Open and transparent communication on company development.</li></ul> Noteworthy points This role cannot be done fully remotely.We require someone who lives within commuting distance to Essen. <div style="text-align:center;">Did you like what you just read? GCT operates a low energy DAC approach to capture CO2 while generating hydrogen as a byproduct. The process consists of 3 main process steps. Absorption in a liquid, precipitation and desorption through alkaline electrolysis. The technology is based on 15 years of research with relevant patent applications filed and working prototypes. The company was founded as a university spin-out by 2 serial entrepreneurs and an experienced DAC researcher.
