Job Description

FULL-TIME PERMANENT POSITION

 

OVERVIEW

Terramera is actively seeking an experienced Scientific Data Architect to join our Green Chemistry Solutions team. This role will design, build, implement, and manage a comprehensive scientific data management framework for Terramera’s product discovery and product development pipeline.

The successful candidate will structure and lead a cross-disciplinary team of data scientists and software/machine learning engineers to build and deploy systems design to capture and analyze a wide variety of scientific data derived from our experimental, imaging and computational chemistry platforms.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

Reporting to the Chief Scientific Officer, the Scientific Data Architect will work closely with data scientists, computational chemists, ML and software engineers. They will also interface with research chemists and biologists in our experimental teams and work with IT on security and HPC/cloud computing-related tasks.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Translate business requirements into technical specifications, including data streams, integrations, transformations, databases, and data warehouses
  • Establish and own the scientific data architecture and its vision, strategy, and governance
  • Evaluate multiple third-party platforms for best fit with current data infrastructure and facilitate buy vs build decision-making among stakeholders
  • Design a system for flexible access by diverse human and machine-based applications
  • In collaboration with scientists and engineers, develop principles and standards for smooth flows between data generation, processing and application technologies
  • Work with experimental science and computational chemistry/machine learning teams to implement the data management framework
  • Work with software engineering to develop user-friendly interfaces for data collection and analysis
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and utilize opportunities to leverage them
  • Document entire system and develop training materials for users
  • Performs other related duties and tasks as required

REQUIREMENTS

  • Post-secondary degree in information technology, computer engineering, computer science or related fields
  • 3+ years’ experience in data architecture roles
  • Experience working in a cross-functional environment with experts from different domains
  • Familiarity with standards and guidelines for enterprise architecture (TOGAF and Zachman frameworks)
  • Knowledge of scientific digital data acquisition technologies and scientific data analysis methods
  • Knowledge of requirements for software engineering for applications integration
  • Practical experience using Agile project management frameworks

ASSETS

  • Experience working in chemical formulation development and/or agricultural crop protection R&D is an asset
  • Experience designing data management and analysis systems for research scientists is an asset
  • Experience leading data systems implementation and change management processes is an asset
