About the Role:

Planet is looking for a strategic product marketer to help us grow the market for one of Planet’s newest product lines, and enable business expansion through comprehensive go-to-market strategies in a nascent market environment. You will be part of the broader marketing team, specifically sitting within the dynamic Product & Solutions Marketing group.

This product marketer is responsible for leading broad cross-functional, go-to-market initiatives that ultimately build sales pipeline for Planet’s hyperspectral product line, currently under development. These initiatives include overseeing and engaging with a board of early customers, product launches, solution development, acquisitions, and strategic partnerships. As a leader, you will be responsible for driving alignment and execution of the strategy across the Marketing, Product, Commercial, Finance and Operations teams.

You will work closely with the Product organization in defining customer & partner challenges and the roadmap for new features that address critical unmet needs. You will work closely with the Commercial organization to ensure “field readiness,” arming them with the right content, messaging, and competitive insights. You will work closely with Finance & Operations teams on pricing, packaging, terms of use, and business model implications.

To do so, this person will need to be an expert on a wide range of use cases for key verticals and how Planet products can solve customer challenges and drive value. You will intimately know our customers, enable our commercial organization, and influence the product strategy. You will also craft messaging and positioning for target personas, build content to generate demand through marketing campaigns, and create enablement materials for the Commercial team.

To be successful in this role, you will bring a clear perspective on how to bring new geospatial data-as-a-service (DAAS) and/or enterprise software products to an evolving market, with a detailed understanding of the buyer and user personas and along the stages of the buyer’s journey. An attention to detail and an eye for high quality are critical to your success, along with an ability to articulate our product’s value proposition in a way that resonates with our audiences and clearly articulates how Planet can solve the unique problems in different industries. This role is expected to routinely present at external conferences, events, and webinars, and should be adept at public speaking and evangelizing Planet’s products.

Impact You’ll Own:

  • Deeply understand the geospatial data and analytics market, where Planet fits; identify opportunities for market expansion and assess gaps.
  • Lead Planet’s go-to-market initiatives (product launches, joint solutions, acquisitions, partners) and drive execution of deliverables across sales, product, marketing, legal, and operations teams.
  • Oversee a user advisory board of early participants to gather product feedback and better understand hyperspectral use cases
  • Build out and maintain buyer and user personas and develop product value propositions that differentiate Planet offerings in the market.
  • Work with Solutions Marketing to identify and assess which partners can complement existing offerings & develop joint marketing plans.
  • Collaborate with product team and vertical subject matter experts to produce and update a portfolio of marketing and sales enablement tools (presentations, data sheets, use cases, demos, battlecards, etc).
  • Collaborate with technical teams to create interactive demos that showcase product value to be used for trade shows, industry events, and sales outreach
  • Support marketing campaigns with messaging and content to drive sales pipeline.
  • Partner closely with the broader marketing organization on global programs, including demand generation, digital marketing, field marketing, creative, and communications.

What You Bring:

  • BA/BS degree
  • 5+ years of product marketing experience
  • Proven track record positioning products and marketing B2B/enterprise products
  • Top notch writing, communication and presentation skills (to both internal and external audiences)
