Position:  Facilities Technician 

Location:  Hayward, California  

We are looking for a facilities technician who will ensure the Hayward lab and greenhouses meet the needs of the people that work in them.  You will be a key player on the team using your skills to ensure cutting-edge research can take place.  You'll be responsible for maintaining the facility by conducting preventive maintenance and repair, building out equipment and furniture placement and tending to other facilities tasks.  If you are looking for an opportunity to work with a highly-engaged and fun team, and are a critical thinker with a "can do" attitude, this is may be the job for you!   

Responsibilities: 

  • Maintain the facility space, including greenhouse and labs. 
  • Conduct preventive maintenance and repair on heavy machinery and growth chambers. 
  • Move and stack pallets, change light bulbs. 
  • Modify gas cylinder and water connections. 
  • Build out equipment and furniture placement. 
  • Archive service records. 
  • Assist with other needs as they arise. 

Qualifications and Experience 

  • Basic knowledge in plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and mechanical systems 
  • Ability to think critically and adapt to changing priorities 
  • Ability to research equipment and assess repair needs 
  • Successfully manage multiple projects 
  • Can work well independently and with a team 
  • Fabrication experience a plus 
  • Excellent safety acumen (with OSHA training being a plus) 
  • Ability to work in high places 
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds  
  • May have some weekend and evening work
