Job Description

Twelve is a new kind of chemical company built for the climate era. Our breakthrough technology eliminates emissions by turning CO2 into essential products. We are a team of scientists, engineers and problem solvers on a mission to fundamentally shift the way the world addresses climate change and lead the transition to a fossil free future with our carbon transformation technology.

We are currently looking for a Senior Modeling Engineer to join the Electrochemistry team. The Electrochemistry team is responsible for conducting CO2 electrolysis at different scales, optimizing electrolysis conditions and developing diagnostics tools to help improve the CO2 electrolysis performance. The Senior Modeling Engineer is expected to couple modeling with experimental data to advance our understanding of various phenomena within the CO2 electrolysis process.

What you will do

  • Build physics-based, multiscale models of species and components within the CO2 electrolyzer
  • Explore transport phenomena including charged and neutral species along with structure/function/property relationships
  • Model and verify species transport mechanisms
  • Establish thermodynamic model and simulate heat transfer in single cell reactors at different scales
  • Communicate results of models with other teams to implement performance improvement
  • Integrate science of the essential components to improve device performance and durability

Who you are

We recognize that experience comes in different forms, many skills are transferable, and passion goes a long way. Even more important than your resume is a clear demonstration of skill, dedication and ability to learn. A stand-out candidate would show broad technical abilities, including but not limited to the following areas:

  • PhD degree in a relevant STEM field required - chemistry or chemical engineering is preferred
  • Strong knowledge of first principles, molecular dynamics, Monte Carlo simulations, DFT required
  • Experience developing models to understand chemical reaction mechanisms or molecular transport processes required
  • Experience with simulation software (ANSYS, COMSOL) required
  • Strong knowledge of chemical thermodynamics, computational chemistry, transport phenomena, statistical mechanics, etc.
  • Strong problem solving skills through model development and data analysis
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills
  • Strong desire and curiosity to learn new things

Twelve Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Paid sick days and vacation
  • Competitive salary and equity compensation commensurate with experience
  • Diverse and inclusive work environment
