Job Description

WHO YOU ARE

As a Staff Layout Engineer on the Manufacturing team, you are an experienced, hands-on engineer with a passion for designing and improving manufacturing layouts to meet production and quality targets. You will lead the layout design for our next-generation battery material factory. Working with Equipment, Process, Manufacturing, and Capital Project teams, you will create equipment and material storage layouts that optimize material flow, eliminate waste, and maximize efficiency. You have excellent communication skills and are able to collaborate seamlessly with internal teammates and external contractors to conceptualize, design and build a Sila’s state-of-the-art production facility from the ground up. Your work will have an enduring impact on Sila’s success and will become a model for our future factories.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES 

  • Work with internal teams and external contractors to design and optimize the factory layout for scaled-up battery material production. 
  • Generate detailed autoCAD models and documentation of your designs and proposals.
  • Ensure all designs enable a safe and productive environment for manufacturing and maintenance personnel.
  • Ensure that material handling and WIP storage designs address plant capacity constraints and risks.
  • Travel to plant site to support commissioning and start-up activities.
  • Use simulation, modeling, value stream mapping and information gathering to optimize material, equipment and personnel flows/movement within the factory.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • B.S. in Industrial Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of industry experience.
  • Experience designing and/or improving factory layouts and capital equipment in uptime-sensitive manufacturing applications.
  • Experience designing material handling and WIP storage infrastructure for continuous and batch processes.
  • Experience reading and understanding equipment P&IDs.
  • Expertise with industrial engineering AutoCAD 2D, Plant 3D or similar 3D modeling software.
  • Experience working with bulk solids or powder handling equipment would be nice.
  • Experience with manufacturing discrete event simulation tools (ProModel or similar) would be nice.
  • SOLIDWORKS software experience would be nice

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Pass a respirator fit test and be able to wear respiratory protection daily
  • Wear personal protective equipment including, but not limited to, a lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, and steel toe safety shoes
