Job Description

As the Lead Systems Engineer at SparkCharge, you will work closely with hardware, software, test, and project management teams during product development to overcome cross-disciplinary problems and guarantee product success. You will serve a critical role in ensuring that the output of each discipline comes together seamlessly and creates a functioning product per specified requirements. You will drive the acquisition, documentation, and communication of requirements from both stakeholders and from a safety/regulatory standpoint. You will work closely with test engineering and test houses to ensure that SparkCharge products are tested to, and conform with, all regulations. This position will report to The Director of Engineering.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Director of Engineering and the Engineering Project Manager to drive product requirements, maintain design conformance to them, and track required changes.
  • Work with the Director of Engineering and Engineering Project Manager to establish, document, and maintain engineering processes that result in more efficient development cycles.
  • Drive the process of bringing together mechanical, electrical, and firmware subsystems. Ensure that they work optimally per requirements, both individually and in tandem.
  • Drive the effort to design for manufacturability and mass production.
  • Establish, verify, and document all subsystem interfaces by documenting them using block and wiring diagrams.
  • Research and document required product regulations and certifications needed for product sale both in U.S. and abroad.
  • Work with internal test engineering and external test houses to specify required testing, assist in the execution of tests, and verify that returned data meets regulatory requirements.
  • Resolve system issues and provide recommendations to design teams to improve product functionality.
  • Oversee all Engineering document management.

Requirements

Candidates must have:

  • A BS degree in an engineering or technical field.
  • At least five years of experience working in a cross-disciplinary role while designing complex electro-mechanical systems.
  • Basic to intermediate understanding of electrical systems and their components.
  • Two to three years of experience working with a high-power product or battery technology.
  • Experience working with PLM software.
  • Experience developing a mass-produced product or leading teams to design towards manufacturability.
  • A strong background in hardware debugging (4+ years in a hands-on role) and a demonstrated passion for understanding why a product does or does not work.
  • Experience researching and specifying product regulatory requirements (UL, ETL, CE, etc.).
  • Experience with test specification, data analysis, and data organization.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Experience using Solidworks or Altium.
  • Basic working knowledge of Python or Matlab.
  • Experience modeling system behavior
  • Familiarity with embedded firmware (C/C++)

Additional “Plus” Experiences include:

  • Experience in the EV or EVSE space.
  • Automotive industry experience.
  • Experience with a previous technology start-up.
  • Experience with technology-based products for the consumer market.
