Job Description

Inspire and empower global university communities to accelerate alternative proteins

The Good Food Institute (GFI) is at the forefront of the movement to use food technology and markets to solve some of the world’s biggest problems, from climate change and global hunger to antibiotic resistance and the exploitation of animals.

How You Will Make a Difference

In this role, you will work with university communities around the world to build the alternative protein research and training ecosystems needed to power the future of food. The Academic Community Coordinator will be responsible for:

  • Working closely with the university innovation team to implement GFI’s Alt Protein Project, a global community of student groups working to cultivate alternative protein ecosystems at their universities.
  • Serving as GFI’s primary point of contact for Alt Protein Project applicants and accepted student groups.
  • Supporting the development of educational and training resources, events, and programs for The Alt Protein Project.
  • Building and executing a global community strategy to ensure student groups collaborate effectively and foster meaningful connections across the globe.
  • Measuring and amplifying the impact of the Alt Protein Project through activities such as writing content for the GFI website, blog, social media channels, and newsletters.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
Who We’re Looking For

The Academic Community Coordinator must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in biology, chemistry, engineering, food science, or a related scientific field.
  • Significant experience community-building and navigating university ecosystems.
  • Comfort utilizing video, audio, social media, and other multimedia formats to educate and inspire academic stakeholders.
  • Exceptional public speaking skills.
  • Dynamic networking and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • The ability to professionally communicate verbally and in writing with students, scientists, university administrators, and other audiences from around the world.
  • Comfort working remotely and in a rapidly growing and evolving organization.
  • Strong support for GFI’s philosophy and mission; demonstrated interest in public health, environmentalism, animal protection, or food security.
  • A commitment to GFI’s values: believe change is possible, do the most good we can, share knowledge freely, act on evidence, and invite everyone to the table.

We want the best people and we don’t want biases holding us back. We strongly encourage people of every color, orientation, age, gender, origin, and ability to apply. Because we value a diverse workplace, we prioritize an inclusive climate absent of discrimination and harassment during the application process and after you join the team.

Research indicates that men tend to apply for jobs when they meet just 60% of the criteria, while women and people from other marginalized groups only apply if they are a 100% match. If you are passionate about GFI’s mission and think you have what it takes to be successful in this role even if you don’t check all the boxes, please apply. We’d appreciate the opportunity to consider your application.
