Job Description

About Piclo

The climate crisis means that now, more than ever, we need to act. Here at Piclo, we believe we are not powerless against climate change and are focused on enabling the transition to a decarbonised future. Our team is on a mission to make our energy systems smart, flexible and sustainable.

We’re hiring a Senior Product Manager to work alongside our friendly team of software developers, product managers, designers and more that are at the forefront of transforming the energy sector.

About the role

We’re looking for an experienced PM to join a cross-functional team focused on expanding our existing marketplace platform. You’ll be joining our friendly team at an exciting time—we recently concluded a successful Series A funding round—and we’re busy preparing for a period of sustained growth.

Within your team, and with support from other PM colleagues, you can expect to be called upon to bring your experience to bear in the following areas:

  • Team management: working with your cross functional team, you’ll be responsible for making sure the team has everything they need to be effective and productive.
  • Line Management: on successful passing of your probation, you will take the line management on of one/two other PM's.
  • Process management: overall responsibility for getting work scoped at both the higher level strategy stages down to the smallest tickets in a sprint. You’ll also need to be comfortable planning sprints and managing the backlog of tickets for your team.
  • Product strategy: planning and prioritising work from the product roadmap, working closely with your team, the other product managers, CTO and CPO.
  • Product fit: supporting the gathering of requirements across user, business and product to ensure the product is incrementally improving in the most valuable way.
  • Delivery: responsible for quality and timely delivery. Communication and training with key stakeholders in the business will be critical to ensure a successful release. Planning for validation of newly released increments and acceptance testing of your teams’ work will be required from time to time.
  • Release management: You’ll be responsible for releasing your teams’ work and this will include making sure it’s tracked appropriately as it’s rolled out (e.g. flag tracking and management).

About you

Our ideal candidate meets many - but not necessarily all - of the below criteria:

  • You have 5+ years of experience as a PM in a relevant workplace.
  • You are familiar with Trello, or another similar product management tool, and have experience of writing, scoping and tracking tickets as they move through the flow, reporting against KPIs as they’re delivered.
  • You are an incredibly motivated and organised person. You enjoy the process of prioritising work and setting timelines while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • You’re resourceful, resilient, and flexible, and will help clear the path for everyone to do their best work.
  • You are an excellent communicator who can build relationships with teammates from different disciplines, making sure that everyone is clear about what’s required of them.
  • You’re fluent in English, even if it’s not your first language.

Also desirable:

  • Experience in start-up or scale-up environments.
  • Knowledge and experience of best practises for agile product management. Among other things, you‘re able to support the dev team to manage code reviews, testing and documentation.
  • Understanding of the energy industry, from the perspective of suppliers, the regulator or the networks.
  • Experience in scale-up environments.
  • You are motivated by Piclo’s mission to make our energy system smart, flexible and clean.
  • You are naturally empathic and are always mindful of the humans who use and benefit from your work.

What we can offer

  • £68-78k, with standard share options
  • 25 days holiday (plus Bank Holidays)
  • 35 hour week - with flexible working hours (within core business hours)
  • Hybrid working - with a minimum requirement to come into the office once per month, to meet with your team
  • Life Assurance at 3x salary, income protection and private Healthcare with Vitality (medical history disregarded)
  • A monthly expense budget for the extra kit or tools you might need to get your job done to the best of your abilities at home
  • Annual allowance to spend on professional development, additional equipment, or your mental and physical wellbeing
  • Quarterly off-site where the whole company gets together

Who we are

Founded in 2013 by Andy, Alice and James, we are a quickly growing team of +30. Having completed a successful Series A round during 2020 and with backing from the Clean Growth Fund and Mott MacDonald Ventures, Piclo is a tech company poised to disrupt the way that electricity grids are run worldwide.

Piclo Flex is the leading independent marketplace that enables technologies, such as electric vehicles, to provide flexibility to electricity grids. With the rise in demand for renewables and clean technologies, our grids come under more stress and face challenges in maintaining the delicate balance of supply and demand. Piclo Flex smooths out the complex transition, delivering low-cost and resilient grids.

We know “flexibility” can be quite complex to understand at first, here’s a short video that explains “what are flexibility services?
