THE PROJECTIn this project as an intern at the R&amp;D department of Skytree you will be investigating the degradation mechanism of sorbent material by using both analytical techniques, such as FTIR and by carrying out degradation studies to look at material performance over time. You will be experimenting using an FTIR spectrometer at the University of Amsterdam to understand the chemical changes that the material undergoes, under the supervision of Prof. Bettina Baumgartner. The investigation of the effect of material degradation on its performance will be carried out at Skytree, under the supervision of members of the R&amp;D team.  Learning Objectives:<ul><li>Hands-on experience in an emerging field within the climate tech sector: material characterization using analytical techniques and carrying out tests to define CO2 capture performance of materials </li><li>Discussion and brainstorming with academia and industry professionals to correlate material characterization with performance tests </li><li>Networking within the carbon capture industry and cross-functional collaboration </li></ul><ul><li>Internship duration- 5 months, full-time, 40 hrs a week.</li><li>Start date- August/September 2025</li><li>This position does not meet the criteria for employer sponsorship, therefore we are unable to support work permit or residency applications.</li></ul> YOU’LL MAKE AN IMPACT BY<ul><li>Carrying out research on the chemical composition of sorbent materials and changes that it undergoes during CO2 adsorption by carrying out in-situ FTIR measurements.</li><li>Carrying out material performance tests using both fresh and degraded sorbent materials. </li><li>Contributing to the innovative material research at Skytree and collaborating with R&amp;D team members. </li></ul>WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR<ul><li>You are currently pursuing a MSc degree ( in chemistry, chemical engineering or material science) and are looking for an internship to complete your studies. </li><li>You have hands-on experience and enjoy working in the chemical laboratory.</li><li>Previous experience working with analytical techniques such as FTIR or UV-VIS is a plus. </li><li>You enjoy cross-disciplinary challenges which require creative thinking.</li><li>You have an open-mind and enjoy working as part of a diverse, multi-cultural team.</li><li>You are a good communicator and can write clear, concise technical documentation.</li><li>You are proficient in English, both verbally and in written form.</li></ul>WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT<ul><li>An opportunity for professional and personal growth in one of the most innovative climate tech start-ups in Amsterdam!</li><li>A diverse and international team</li><li>Travel cost reimbursement (choose from an NS business card, lease bike or 23ct p/km travel allowance)</li><li>A cozy office located close to the Science Park train station, also close to the highway</li><li>Access to the Science Park and Amsterdam University cafeterias (and all the great and healthy meal options)</li><li>A monthly lunch allowance</li><li>Regular social activities hosted by our very own Champagne Committee</li></ul>
