Job Description

Who we are
Our mission is to accelerate the world’s transition to net zero carbon. But we need to move quickly. Emitwise wants to ensure that every organisation across the world, big or small, is able to embark on a sustainability journey that culminates in net zero. The planet deserves more than just another tech company, and if you do too, then keep reading.
At Emitwise, we've built a team that has the skillset and desire to bring automated carbon accounting to life — saving businesses time, money, and emissions. We have built a platform which makes it significantly easier and faster for companies to calculate, track, and reduce their carbon emissions. This allows them to reduce costs, future-proof their business, and become sustainability leaders. Ultimately, we're a group of people disenchanted with business as usual and looking to make a real impact through creative innovation.
Backed by top-tier Silicon Valley investors who share our mission, including True Ventures, and Ex Uber CEO Ryan Graves, we are a well-funded seed-stage start-up. Read more about us in publications like ForbesBusiness Insider, and Fast Company
Your Mission
As part of the Technical Carbon Accounting team, you will apply your expertise in Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Environmentally Extended Input and Output (EEIO) analysis to drive the development and implementation of practicable and scalable modelling solutions to GHG accounting. You will be working with our team of engineers, machine learning specialists and LCA specialists to help build out our current carbon accounting technology for scale. You will take a particular delight in automating emission factor selection and calculation processes, preparing emission factors, and measuring and communicating uncertainty information.
Emitwise is a London-based company and most of our team live and work in the UK. However, we welcome applications for this role from candidates based anywhere, provided you are able to work roughly on UK hours (+/- 2 hours).

Your work will be critical to the success of Emitwise and will include:

  • Develop, maintain and improve EEIO / hybrid LCA models and data for carbon accounting.
  • Support the development of automated procedures for data validation, uncertainty assessment and data selection.
  • Contribute to the design and development of technically assured software as a subject matter expert in our product team.
  • Help grow a healthy culture of transparency, collaboration and technical quality in the team.

There are a range of experiences and skills that will likely help you succeed in this role, including:

  • Strong technical and practical knowledge of LCA, EEIO analysis and hybrid LCA approaches, including experience of working with EEIO models (such as Exiobase, USEEIO or Eora).
  • Competencies in one or more general purpose programming languages, such as Python.
  • A love for analysing and interpreting data, developing environmental models, and a drive to solve challenging technical problems.
  • Good collaborator, flexible and open to sharing ideas.
  • Good communication skills, with an ability to communicate complex, technical information clearly, concisely and accurately to different audiences.

What's in it for you?

  • Accelerating the global fight against climate change
  • A competitive salary
  • Being part of a supportive, collaborative team full of amazing talent
  • Bringing advanced software solutions to a vital but antiquated industry
  • Helping to manage the unpredictability of growing a company

  • We also offer a range of benefits that we feel are critical to a happy, productive workplace, including remote working, generous holiday allowance, a personalised workspace, flexible working hours, social impact time off, professional development, mental health time off and a competitive compensation package.

What are you waiting for? If this sounds like a team you'd like to join, a mission you'd like to be part of and a role you'd thrive in, then apply now!  Whatever skills you bring to the table and whatever background you're coming from, we welcome you to start a conversation with us. The time to act is now.
Right to work  We are currently only accepting applications from candidates who have the right to work in the UK.
We believe in the value of diversity We believe diversity is the cornerstone of innovation. We embrace uniqueness and continually strive for equity for all. Ultimately, our team powers Emitwise. We want all our employees to feel valued and appreciated for who they are, where they come from, and what they've achieved. Our employee policy is designed to prevent discrimination regardless of gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, age, neurodiversity, disability status, citizenship, or any other aspect which makes them unique.
