Form Energy is a team of passionate people tackling the challenge of climate change through transformationally low cost energy storage.  Our team members are active learners who enjoy working on tough technology problems in massive markets and embody our values of humanity, excellence and creativity. The company is backed by a diverse set of committed investors and we have raised over $360M to date.
Role Description We are looking for an entry level Battery Engineer to take a hands-on role in which you will plan, execute, and analyze electrochemical experiments that will advance our understanding and optimize battery performance for long-duration energy storage systems. This role will support the rapidly expanding battery test capability at Form Energy and aid in the improvement of cell build and test procedures.  With this expanded and refined test capability, you will help to integrate new materials for the cell, support better understanding of cell degradation/failure mechanisms, and recommend design changes geared towards performance improvement. What You'll Do:

  • Contribute significantly in the lab to help build, test, and characterize cells
  • Analyze data from various sources (constant current experiments, AC resistance measurements, chemical assays, mechanical testing, etc.) to draw conclusions and drive decision making
  • Combine characterization and electrochemical results to make root cause cell failures in order to improve cell performance understanding
  • Study and plan experiments related to component interactions and operational sensitivities to help optimize cell performance
  • Communicate your findings within a small collaborative group of engineers

What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, or related field
  • Experience (including courses or student research) doing lab-based experimental work
  • Enthusiasm for working on clean energy technologies
  • A growth mindset to pair with a preference for experiential learning
  • Familiarity with battery or electrochemical devices a plus
