The company is backed by a diverse set of committed investors and we have raised over $360M to date.
Role DescriptionThe Software Engineering team at Form builds innovative internal tools that touch every part of Form’s product and company. There are four subteams: Tech Data accelerates hardware technology development via data engineering for battery and IoT data; Formware accelerates business development via grid modeling tools; Opsware accelerates company operations via apps for manufacturing and R&D; and Platform owns the data warehouse and compute infrastructure that underlie everything else. We’re a Python/React/AWS shop, and use a modern data stack including Snowflake and Dagster.
Form Energy’s approach to energy storage business development is uniquely data-driven and backed by an industry-leading analytics and optimization suite called Formware. As a data visualization engineer on the Formware team, early projects may include selecting our geospatial data stack, creating an app to help utilities understand how energy storage will impact their grid, or developing libraries for reproducible data analysis. This role requires experience in full-stack web development, as well as a diverse toolkit for static and interactive data visualization.

What You'll Do:

  • Create reusable libraries and stand-alone data visualizations that convey the value of multi-day energy storage for a deeply decarbonized power grid
  • Build data-intensive web apps to guide our business development and uncover market opportunities
  • Collaborate with Product and other stakeholders to design new features and support a breadth of users
  • Nerd out about PPAs, CCAs, IRPs, LMPs, LCOEs, and ELCCs with energy market experts (ok if you're excited to learn!)
  • Advocate for software engineering and data visualization best practices across the company and lead by example
  • Act as a collaborative member of a distributed software engineering team

What You'll Bring:

  • Passion for our mission, sustainability, and climate change
  • Minimum 3+ years of professional software engineering experience. Senior roles are also available.
  • Experience processing data and creating data visualizations in Javascript (eg with D3) and in Python (eg with pandas)
  • Experience developing data-driven web apps using React, Typescript, and Flask (or similar)
  • Keen design sense, deep empathy with your users, and a knack for storytelling with data
  • A pragmatic approach to problem-solving that blends good judgment, clear communication, follow-through, and creative use of resources
  • Background in renewables, storage

Form Energy, where possible, embraces a digital work environment and supports onsite, hybrid, and remote types of work with office locations in Somerville, MA (Greater Boston), Berkeley, CA (San Francisco Bay Area), and Eighty Four, PA (Greater Pittsburgh). #LI-DNI
