Role DescriptionWe seek an experienced and innovative technical leader to fill the role of Director of Anode Development, leading efforts around a core component of our Form Energy’s novel multi-day energy storage system. This is an opportunity to take on a technical leadership role in the early stages of an exciting energy storage technology startup. The ideal candidate will bring a demonstrated track record of interdisciplinary technical leadership, including chemistry/materials, electrochemistry, and materials process engineering, to drive achievement of significant milestones on aggressive timelines. The ideal candidate will bring direct experience in the development and commercial launch of at least the electrode of an electrochemical product, including having driven a product from the laboratory/bench scale to high-volume production. You will bring a strong systems-level approach to problem definition and problem-solving. Key interfaces for the function include other component-development teams (Cathode, Electrolyte), Product Development (Reactor and Systems Engineering), and Supply Chain.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead the development, qualification, and scaling of Form Energy’s anode, including formulation development that culminates in robust component specifications
  • Define and manage projects and initiatives that support Form’s technology roadmap
  • Develop and manage budgets and timelines for anode development activities
  • Translate team-level milestones and objectives into clear, reportable goals for the team
  • Collaborate with Anode Process and Supply Chain teams to define requirements for, and to inform efficient scaling of, anode manufacturing processes
  • Collaborate with Reactor Engineering to define and meet electrode mechanical requirements
  • Grow, develop, and lead a world-class team of engineers and scientists to achieve these outcomes

What You'll Bring:

  • Degree (BS or higher) in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field
  • 10-15 years professional experience in product design and development, preferably with a mix of early-stage development and later-stage production experience. Areas of prior experience preferably include: Electrochemical systems and electrode development. This may include batteries, capacitors, flow batteries, fuel cells, or other devices
  • Demonstrated track record of leading innovative cross-functional teams to deliver outstanding results on tight timelines and budgets
  • Experience working in a distributed team (nationally or internationally)
